The level of patronizing arrogance on display in the article is disgusting:
"They carried with them jewelry, coins, even 20 keys, because they were hoping to return home, Mr. Camardo added.They didnt understand that it was all about to end. "
One would think these people had the intellectual capacity of particularly stupid children. Whenever I leave the house, my keys are in my pocket, because that's where I keep my keys. If I'm ever endangered by a volcano, that's where they'll be, not because I don't understand my home is about to be destroyed, but because I keep my keys in my pocket and I don't have time to be messing around sorting what I need from what I don't need.
