GE closing in Bloomington: they are making fridges that are no longer in demand

Pfizer closing: this is because their product, inhaled insulin, is not marketable and was a disaster

Manufacturing jobs leaving: this is happening EVERYWHERE. However, Indiana is suffering LESS than its neighboring states. All other states around Indiana have higher unemployment rates.

Overall, I think its a foolish statement to say these jobs are minimum wage. How do you know? Do you honestly think sales and installation people only get paid minimum wage? You are crazy. They may not be $100K jobs, but they are JOBS nonetheless. Indiana gaining 1,000+ jobs is a great thing. GREAT thing.

I don't understand how people come on here and complain about jobs being ADDED? No matter what they pay. You most likely:

1) bitter because you lost your job and don't have education to get a better one

2) hate Indiana

Get an education, stop complaining, and grow up.

Sounds like you hate Indiana because Indiana is improving itself and you are not.

This is a real "high-tech" industry announcement! Cold calling and customer support.

I don't work for them but for your information, qualifed techs make a lot more than min wage, probably 2 or 3x. Successful sales people are some of the highest paid around, but there are a lot of unsuccessful ones too. So back off and be happy someone is hiring. Congrats to Dave Lindsey and his team for growing and making good.

It's better than NO jobs at all. Would you prefer that? Or, maybe, you think these would be better if they were outsourced overseas.....

How is it we can afford to give money away to every company with a promise and a smile but we are being told the cupboards are nearly bare?

And you know this how? Please state your sources. What info do you have to prove what you are saying?
Without justifying your comments, we must expect that they are merely opinions not based in fact.

I'm struck by the negative types here who simply cannot find anything good to say about much of anything. Lots of "they" this ...and other grumping around. I guess you're lucky you get this chance to vent...you might otherwise go postal and move beyond your mere nuisance presence here and be a real problem in the real world.
Good luck...

and they did...kind of makes you feel all warm and fuzzy knowing that some people will always find the bad in anything good...

what do some of these people expect? Six figure jobs for recent high school graduates? Non-graduates? No folks, you have to climb ladders to get the really big incomes. And that means, as much as some might hate to hear it, there must be a bottom rung. And if that bottom rung is a telemarketing job while someone is attending college or job training, or working part time while the kids are young, then its a job and its a good thing. Maybe someday the telemarketing employees will climb up the rung, or maybe they'll be happy where they are, because it lets them do other things...but in the meantime, its a real job with income and probably benefits and a line to add to a resume, and proof to a future employer that a person can get out of bed or off the couch or out of a bar, get to work and hold a job, that someone who maybe is a little short on real life experience may need to turn their life around.
Always something

Nice to consider giving Mayor Ballard credit...but I suspect that this has been something that has been cooking for a while. Maybe some reluctant congrats for the previous mayor as well????

Wow, what great news. This will put Indiana on the cutting edge of technology and a eason for our college graduates to remain in Indiana. Lets see if they actually add 1100 new jobs. The 300 jobs in the Indianapolis area they are claiming to add will most likely be it. I have a relative that works for this comany and the average pay is $10.00 per hour with little to no benefits. That is less than $21,000 annually. Smoke and Mirrors folks. The politicians are just trying to hide the bad publicity of job losses throughout this poverty stricken state.

well, actually, and not to rain on the parade for Ballard, this was either a state deal, or set up during the Peterson years, and Ballard just gets to stand in the wings. Since the conference was in the Guv's office, I'm betting it was a state deal. Remember, Ballard didn't appoint his economic development deputy mayor until this week, so I'm pretty sure that the new Mayor had little if anything to do with this deal...
