Our view: Was justice really served in Favela case?

Had he been able to get away with it, Horacio M. Favela would be sitting in judgment of others today -assessing fines, imposing jail sentences, setting bonds and performing all of the functions of a municipal judge.

I also agree.

I add that the inclination of judges and officials to give other judges and officials light sentences suggests the need for legislation specifying sentencing guidelines requiring jail time and financial penalties. Take on jobs with significant consequences should mean penalties with significant consequences for criminal behavior in those jobs.

Judge schultz was creative in her sentencing. Mandatory guidelines would limit this creativity. However, it would also limit the District Attorney's over zealous nature and make her more accountable with her caseload particularly dwi and domestic violence cases.

If the book were to be thrown at Mr. Favela then people might also expect other cases of voter and election fraud to be investigated and punished. We can't have that; not with all the illegal aliens that have been allowed to vote and all the mysterious ballots that just kind of show up in the Dona Ana Country Election Commissioner's office.

This state and this county are crooked and have been crooked since day one. Mr. Favela's problem is that he isn’t quite as sophisticated in his crookedness as most of the others.

Where the heck is the Dona Ana Country Election Commissioner's office? Is there such a place? I thought Elections were held by the Dona Ana County Bureau of Elections office.
