why would you let two children that age go to the river by them selves anyways, parents at fault.

That was my initial thought. I have an 8 year old and a 12 year old and I don't even let them get in our pool without an adult let alone a large river. I am sure the parents are going through h**l, but they are to blame for the situation in the first place.

My thoughts also. My children are 11, 13 and 15 and if they wanted to go to the river without an adult they wouldnt be able to go period. 8 and 11 years old, wow, there is definately some parenting neglect to even come out of their mouths and say "OK".

Please do not start pounding on these parents without knowing all the facts. I grew up across the street from the Susquehanna (different part of PA) and it would not be uncommon for us at a young age to be down near the river. There are shallow spots, dry banks, etc where we felt safe since we knew how to swim. Please reserve judgment for later. They will have a lifetime of "what ifs".

This story is about two missing children that could be presumed dead. Leave the parents alone. I know a mother who lost two boys, both young adults, to a car accident. The last thing the parents need to deal with right now, is the hounding of people that want to force blame. I watched this mother I know go through H3ll losing her boys.
Maybe these boys knew how to swim, maybe they didn't. Until you know every little detail about this situation, don't pass judgement. What goes around, comes around.

Agree 100%.
Would you expect anything less of the wonderful people of York/Adams counties? They are experts
at everything and anything.
What if the evening sun forum ceased to exsist? What would all these morons spend their day doing?

Evening Sun Forum, what the hell is THAT? We are simply attempting to warn other parents what can happen if CHILDREN are permitted to do certain things. Like folks always ask about helmets and seatbelts when there is a motor vehicle death. Not being mean, hateful or unsympathetic; just attempting to wake some folks up.
"What if the evening sun forum ceased to exsist? What would all these morons spend their day doing"? Oh, they would just sit around and write stupid stuff on the computer like you have just done. Condolences to the family.

I watched coverage of this tragedy on WGAL and saw the anquish in the mother of the 8 year old boy. When your child is 8 you as the parent need to make wise decisions for them when a dangerous situation happens. This mother didn't accept that responsibility and she'll pay for it for the rest of her life with a "what if...." My condolences to her and her family!

This terrible story already acts as a warning for the parents. Im sure it is very easy to say what should have been done after the fact. the parents know the messed up. i dont think we need to tell them!

It is not entirely the parents you need to know the situation entirely and not jump to conclusions. The best thing to do for them now is pray- for strength peace and hope that the children are found. Maybe they just didn't make it home. Children at that age are far more intelligent then anyone wants to give them credit for.

While I feel for the anguish of the parents my question is why haven't neglect charges been filed? The current was reported as being 3 mph. Adults need to take care in that water and no way should those children been allowed down there unattended. PERIOD!
Sympathy anyone

Stop been such Idiots and if you have nothing to say, don't say anything, They found the bodies of both children. May God take care of their souls.

You are right! I am saddened for the family but come on we are not by any means experts we are just saying, 11 and 8 going off unsupervised. You cant even allow them home alone at that age legally no matter how mature you think either of them are. I for one am just saying that i wouldnt have done that but each learn from their mistakes. We can only go from what the Evening Sun posted, sorry i dont know this family personnally to sit down and question what really happened. I know if I had lost mine at that age, i would be mad at myself.

Very sad, I cannot imagine what the parents are going through. I am not sure what the Lord's need is for these two but rest assured, they are in good hands

It amazes me when children die, the perfect parents come out of the wood work, but I'm willing to bet you all drive while talking on the cellphone. those kids weren't babies or toddlers. Adults drown swimming in the river. Where are their parents?

I read all the comments and I don't think anyone was claiming to be a perfect parent as you call them! Good parenting requires guidance and decision-making for your child based on common sense. This mom didn't do that and she'll pay for it with a guilty conscience for the rest of her life! P.S. NO, I don't drive and talk on the cell phone at the same time! Driving takes my full undivided attention.

Christ.

I suppose we should get rid of the lifeguards at public pools then.

Allowing children aged 11 and 8 to go into a RIVER unsupervised is stupidity and child neglect..PERIOD.

I'd have more sympathy had the parents BEEN there and been unable to prevent the tragedy...but they allowed it to happen by being stupid and lacking in common sense.

This really pisses me off. It's no different than if they'd left the house and the kids burned to death in a fire they accidentally started, and should be subject to the same laws concerning parental neglect.

Why do you- how can you act like a Godly person at all- funny your light is pretty dim by the words of your mouth and I can see why it is harder for christians to spread the work- cause ppl like you that claim to be - but are filled with much filth!
