I was wondering when the first loony would use this artcile as an excuse to make an out of context comment complaining about LVH. Looks like you win the prize.

You have no idea what you are talking about regarding a "secrecy act".

Well gee wizzzz! Good ole' LVH. Community giving, pat me on the back, good nieghbor scumbags!!! Ill go to Sacred heart in a heartbeat. The reason SCH fired the CEO was because she ran it into the grond and then blamed the lower class patients. She tried to get the Board of directors to join LVH. So glad they didnt fall for it.Its ashame docotrs are leaving SHC for LVH. A few do have dignity and are hanging tough or going back to private practice. LVH destroyed the west end of the Valley. When the employees laid off at SCH applied for jobs at LVH they were told that they cannot apply for a job for 2 yrs because of the secrecy act. F*****G Jerks!

I didn't call it that, I was repeating what the poster said. Go back and read it again please. Look at the post I was responding to before getting your panties in a bunch.

They lived the lime-light and now they are going to sit in Jail. I would rather be poor than sit there. Material things really don't mean anything to you when you are older and have to sell it to survive. I could not think of buying all that make-up to make me self look good. My looks are my looks and if 20 dollars a month isn't going to make me look better, then people will have to look at me with the face I was born with.

Here's the rule that applies: The choice of article is actually based upon the phonetic (sound) quality of the first letter in a word, not on the orthographic (written) representation of the letter. If the first letter makes a vowel-type sound, you use "an"; if the first letter would makes a consonant-type sound, you use "a."
Even using the phonetic sounds, I cannot hear AEIOU in the letters LVH. "a" sounds better in my ears. I know my teacher would have marked "an" as wrong.

How would you phonetically "spell" the letter L? Most people would say "el" or "ell".

The other poster was correct, it is generally accepted that the phonetic sound of the acronym is used to guide the use of the appropriate article. One would say "a NASA astronaut..." not "an NASA astronaut...".

You can google "articles with acronyms" or similar and find numerous refences on this topic.

"vowel-type sound" is the key. the "L" in LVH makes a vowel-type sound even though it is a consonant. we're splitting hairs, but the "poster" you're responding to is correct and your teacher would have been wrong.

So no one at Columbia said anything to LVH when they called for a reference? Or did they?

Wonder who this guy knew at LVH, one of those doctor executives I suppose.

Internal audit at LVH must be busy.

I wonder if she is picking up guys in bars down in South Carolina for the holidays, considering she bailed out on her husband after pilfering through his wallet and going on shopping sprees with out him knowing about it. All that money and she did not even get a boob job? What a bone head move.

Now I get it. I was saying to myself Lehigh Valley Hospital, not LVH. Couldn't figure out how everyone was getting eL out of the word Lehigh. Thanks.

John Bzdil 111 was one of the finest young men our family ever met. He must have married the wrong person to be led to such measures.
