of course climate change is irreversible. It is a natural process, like coming out of the last Ice Age and then entering the next one. perhaps one of you King Canutes will tell us how to stop the sun rising as well?

Poor Dirtling. He gets EVERYTHING wrong. It is irreversible *from the point at which the GHG levels stop rising* which is hardly two years ago. Each year we CONTINUE to add several PPM of GHGs to the atmosphere and this shows NO sign of being 'in control' anytime soon. Even once we start to act, it would take decades to reach a 'stabilization' to start the clock.

Actually in the next thousand years the slide toward the next ice age will have started and thirty five new man made global warming scares will have swept the planet.

I'd say that's an underestimation.
Global scares have been invented since mankind lived in groups, that's how the clever guys made themselves chiefs.

Deniers have spent the past thirty years saying this is all a flash-in-the-pan fad, yet the evidence just mounts, and mounts, and mounts. And so do the costs of inaction.

That isn't an accurate comment, many who are currently sceptical of AGW as a serious issue, were originally believers, like me.
Thirty yeas ago, the majority of ordinary folk hadn't given AGW a lot of thought at all, it was brought to the public's attention in more recent years.
Kyoto was when the media began to make a meal of it and it was made public that whatever was being considered would affect all of us.
Even now, the majority of ordinary folk don't give it much thought and few know any details other than it's likely to cost them more money.

The majority of ordinary folk don't pay attention to science, period. Most think this climate issue is new, simply because they never listened to LBJ's and Thatcher's warnings four or five decades ago, let alone to the alarms of scientists at the time.

Maybe that's because millions of folk either weren't alive or in playschool when Maggie and LBJ were around.
I doubt that even crossed your mind, Norfie.

Actually we have been saying it is nothing more than a guilt trip[ fopr much longer than that/ History has shown that there are thirty year periods where man made global warming is the hot fad followed by thirty year periods where a coming ice age is the fad. The evidence that the earth has been warming naturally is what is mounting along with the evidence that man made global warming was a fraud. Just like it was back in the forties and global cooling was back in the seventies and twenties.

I have also noticed that most larmist do not want to look back any further than thirty years. It must be because the evidence that man made global warming is nothing more than a cultural event then becomes quite evident.

Most of those who have, have also paid attention to history in general and noticed that before that people were blaming the Titanic running into the iceberg on global cooling which just as popular as global warming was back in the fifties and sixties and glboal cooling was in the seventies and eighties.

Maybe you are unaware that in developed countries the majority of science deniers are ignorant old farts who have dismissed these warnings nearly all their lives, Earthling. They ignored LBJ's alarms. They ignored Thatcher's alarms. They never heard of Hansen, Keeling, Revelle, Pielke; let alone Mann, Jones and the legion of younger Earth scientists.

Unfortunately, these self-satisfied fossils are the people who vote most, and are therefore in charge of government policy throughout the rich world. They make up the majority of the teabaggers here in the States. They account for disproportionate numbers of British Tories, Canadian and Australian Conservatives and others spouting pure denial.

The young are more concerned, and for good reason. However, in many countries--and especially in the States--no one has ever managed to get the young to vote in representative numbers, so their opinions literally don't count.

Climate denial is the Geriatric's Crusade.

Norfie, thanks for the history lesson, but you seem to have forgotten that each generation has a set of different issues to deal with.
Mine in Europe had a world war to recover from and a Cold War that followed close on its heels.
We had a different type of pollution control to live with, but most of us were brought up as conservationists and we took recycling and the Clean Air Act in our stride.
60s kids had no such problems to contend with, they grew up without a care and didn't give a thought to pollution.
They're now middle aged and some are even responsible adults.

Writing us off as geriatrics on a denial crusade, just shows your immaturity.

Those fossils were the same people who were living in communes and chanting give peace a chance, not to mention lived in the era of free love. They have heard of your legion of young scientist but also remeber thier own who many made similar claims that also turned out to be not true. The old fossils have not only listen to people like your complain on all that is wrong in the world and what you think should be done to right those wrongs but also have lived history when others of thier generation tried that and ended up with the Killing Fields of Cambodia and other examples of crimes against humanity.

Those fossils have heard everything before and have had the benifit of living it and learning how wrong much of it was. They have listen to people in the past who believed as you did and watched what happen when commies tried to make it happen in the USSR and ended up running a major superpower out of existance.

They are not ignoring the younger generation but what those like yourself are ignoring is the lessons that history can teach. As a result your in a hurry to repeat the very same mistakes those fossils made and are not interested in repeating again. So what makes you think your results will be any more different and you will succeed where they failed. After all they knew even more than you did when they tried it.
