Where are the previous posts? This is suspicious!!!!

I see no reason to hold any honors for something that is equal to Pearl Harbor, 9-11 or any other attack on the sovereign United States

The confederate flag is the same as the swastika.

oh my gosh, here we go again. what exactly will we be observing? a stupid decision on the part of the gentry and landowners to wage war against the United States while, at the same time, having the dirt farmers fight it for them. Listen, I was born in SC and have lived here all my life and one of those dirt farmers who died in the war was my great great grandfather. Even he, if he were alive, would say let it be. There is nothing to celebrate. I sure don't want to spend 2011 seeing our state awash in Confederate flags. We will look even more stupid to the rest of the country than we look now.

Prove that your grandfather would want to let it be. I really dont care if we look stupid. My realatives did not own slaves and fought and died in this war as well. The merits of this war are debatable, just as all others.

Well, what exactly would be remembered about it? There were many wars that the United States participated in, and other than Pearl Harbor Day and September 11th, I don't think there are special holidays just to remember a war. I do think a Fort Sumter remembrance would be appropriate, if a day had to be picked. But this was a war that tore America apart, not one that can be remembered for us all uniting against outsiders. The men and women who fought and died in it, on both sides, would surely want it remembered for the day it ended and not for the reasons it started.

News Flash: The South LOST that war...and all of the causalities (on both sides) were American. Yeah, that's something to be proud of all right.

Sorry, but i concur with Sherman. Southern states attempted to destroy the sovereign US. And hate to add the truth, but SLAVERY was at the core.
If it were left to the southern states, which it was until the feds stepped in again with 64 Civil Rights Act and 65 Voting Rights Act, the south would have continued to treat blacks as sub-humans.
We, the southern states, have bought our reputation based on history and facts.
YOU, my Charleston friend, are the idiot
Good work SHERMAN
