Jaguars Corral the Stampede
June 30, 2007
Auburn Memorial Stadium
The Seattle Stallions, 2006 Pacific NW Football Conference Champions, came to the Kent Valley last Saturday boasting a defense which had not allowed an opponent to score on them in ten quarters and a 14 game winning streak. Until Saturday, the Stallions had not lost a game since the teams’ inception in 2006. New to the NWFL this year, the Stallions had won their first three NWFL games and were sitting at top of the Northwest Football League standings. This momentum carried the Stallions until they crossed paths with the two time defending NWFL Champions, the King County Jaguars. The Jaguars corralled the Stallion ‘Stampede’ and shut them out 34-0.
The Jaguars savage, hard hitting, powerful defense forced six Stallion turnovers by striping, dislodging and intercepting the football. The defense set the tone for Jaguars Quarterback Leo Dickerson who threw for 201 yards and five Jaguar touchdowns.
Both teams’ defenses played tough in the first quarter and did not allow any points to be scored on either side. The Jaguars drew first blood in the second quarter when Dickerson found receiver Anthony Montgomery open for a 32 yard touchdown. Kicker, Mike Astley put up a 24 yard field goal putting the Jaguars up 10-0 at the half.
In the third quarter Dickerson found Carlos Clark for a 20 yard pass in the end zone scoring the only points of the quarter. In the forth the Jaguars really opened up the scoring as Dickerson connected with Jag receivers Bobby Jennings (21 yards), Michael Bush (28 yards) and Anthony Montgomery (38 yards).
The Jaguars offensive line and running backs did a stupendous job blocking and protecting Dickerson from the talented Stallions defense.
The Jaguar defense was lead by LB Robert Brown 6 tackles, CB Jeremiah Captain 5 tackles, DL Fred Hardwell 2 QB sacks and a fumble recovery, CB Nathan Hale Jr. with 4 tackles and a interception, LB Mitch Johnson 4 tackles, 1 sack and a fumble recovery and LB Dion Alexander 4 tackles, 1 fumble recovery and a forced fumble.
The Jaguars take over sole possession of 1st place in the NWFL standings extending their regular season winning streak to 31 games. The Jaguars next home game is Saturday July 14th against the West Sound Saints. The Jaguars will meet the Saints in the second annual Kent Cornucopia Bowl.
