I went to see Marlenny for a perm, spent 2.5 hours there, went home to find my hair was more straight then curly. So I had to return to the salon and have the perm redone. So when I go back for the second time Marlenny is giving me an attitude. At the end she is rinsing my hair she does a step she did not do the first time, THE ACTIVATOR!!!. So she doesn't even apologize that she forgot to do it, she actually said it is not convenient for her to re-do her work and she was not talking to me in the beginning because she did not want to say something mean to me, very unprofessional. Also, if you do not speak spanish this is not the salon for you, The staff and other customers all speak spanish!

I disagree Marlenny's is a great salon! Not only are the cuts, colors, perms, and blowdrys great but the prices are affordable and low! This salon is a great family salon, they do ladies, men, and kids. They are very professional and they do speak english. In this salon you get more then what you pay for and I'm sure if I like it you would too. Go and see Marlenny, Leslie, or Blanca and I'm sure you will be pleased!!!!! Trust me they know what they are doing and they do it well.

..I bet Happy Client is someone who works there -- listen to this story if you're not convinced you should avoid that place like the plague
I am a 23-year-old girl and went to get a short haircut at this place, my second time ever, and not only did the girl not ask me what kind of sides I wanted before she cut, but once she cut one side there was no way to change it, so I did not say anything and she cut the other one -- basically this short flat triangular shape that left some of the fine dawny hair along the ear showing more prominently than had the sides been longer. Ok, fine, so they will grow out, whatever. But then at the end, she takes out an electric shaver and before I know it she is shaving away the baby hair along my ears and at the back of my neck..I was in total shock and indecision as to what to do in a situation like that; I have never heard of women getting shaved up like that, like men are around the edges of their haircut...on the one hand, I was thinking, well maybe I do not know something, it is only my second time getting a really short haircut; on the other hand, I am terrified because I know what happens when you shave hair -- it grows back darker and thicker!! And, she went over and over in places to get them all clean!! I paid the tip and everything, but when I got home I realized I had made a mistake -- I should have cut her off when I realized what she was doing, even when she only did one and not the other. The point is, she should have asked if this is what I wanted before touching my face -- like she did about whether I wanted shampooing and gel...The place is really shady -- the girls only speak Spanish and cannot communicate with the customers properly, and they all trot around timidly while the owner cracks the whip. All these downsides -- lack of expertise, bad communication, unprofessionalism -- explain why the place is cheap. And, although I know we get what we pay for in an open market, when a business invades your rights like that, it crosses the line from bargain to substandard, and what is worse, to some kind of false imprisonment and assault action.

I had a good experience at Marlenny's. I saw Leslie for a cut and highlights. She speaks both Spanish and English and was very interested in knowing exactly what I wanted before she began the process. She was very thorough and I was happy with her services. True, most of the stylists don't speak English as their first language but they do make a great attempt and understanding your expectations and making you feel comfortable.

Marlenny is very nasty. She destoyed my hair. I told her specifically not to cut my hair short. She started randomly cutting my hair as if she were Edward Scissorhands! I left looking like I was some sort of lesbian. Horrified by this ordeal, I stopped her and said to stop. She got soooo nasty with me. I will NEVER EVER go there again. If you know what's good for you....stay away from all of her shops!!!

Angie is the best. She is sweet, speaks English and is very attentive. I would recommend her as a stylist.

Marlenny's is wonderful. I actually live 40 miles away, in Bergen county, and I visit New Providence frequently since my parents live there. I had a color and cut with Roxanne this past weekend, and she was so lovely!! The color product they use is great, it covers grey perfectly, and doesn't make my scalp other colors, and the cut is good too. I didn't want to take off much, and she followed my instructions precisely. Plus, you can't beat the price...$80 bucks for a color, cut, shampoo and blowout. Very reasonable! I would definitely recommend this Salon, and either Roxanne or Blanca to anyone who considers going there. You will not be disappointed.

I am in my 50's; and, have 'unbalanced' hair growth due to my balding head (nothing on top, a little in front and lots on the sides and back).

If the barber doing my haircut doesn't have a good eye for proportion, then I look like hell.

I first tried Marlenny's almost 2 years ago, and haven't had a single regret. I've had my hair cut by both men and women; and, always get courtesy, and a real attention to detail...right down to straight-razor trimming of my beard.

Although the staff is mainly hispanic, the majority of clients I always see are not...and, seem to be very pleased with the service.

In addition to a great haircut and service, you can't beat the price...they are significantly less expensive than the other options in New Providence. However, that would not be a factor, if I was less than happy with the end results.

I went to Marlenny's for extensions, spoke to Fatima...she said my extensions would cost $80.00...just to put them in.$240.00!!My dad was really angry. One month before prom they posted one set of prices, on prom day the prices had been changed on the blackboard(they had more than doubled). They also double book appointments. These people are not professional at all. They quote one price and then pretend they don't understand. These people really give Hispanics a very bad name. They should be ashamed of themselves!!Dishonesty and cheating is not the way to stay in business around here.

Have gone in a few times for a haircut and 2 out of 4 times my wife had to fix all the spots that were completely missed, chunks of hair uncut sticking out. This past visit was my last, I had to literally have my hair recut all over again. I am not sure the person doing my hair knew what she was doing. I don't care about the language barrier but I do care that they do a decent job for the money and the lady could not understand one word of English which did make it very hard to communicate. I can pay 6 dollars more a few doors down and get a job well done and that is what I am going to do from now on and so will my son. Spend a little more money and actually get your hair cut once.

If you want to know where Marleeny is she is on Main St. in Somerville in her new shoppe. And to all you haters out there if Marleeny was so "sheisty" than how would it be possible for her to be so successful. She does own atleast 4 or 5 hair salons and I am white and have been getting my haircut hi-lited and even bleached now at her salons since 2002, when I saw another customers of hers with a beautiful hairstyle and asked her where she had it done. Marleeny doesn't discriminate against anyone and spends a lot of time consulting with her customers. If you want a style that you have only seen in a magazine or on tv, Marleeny can create that look for you because she is that good. I love Marleenys Hairsalon.

P.S. if you had any brains in the first place you would go to the best from jump obviously if you want a great haircut you would go to only the owner of the hair salon that is why I only make appointments with Marleeny she has the most experience at her salons.
