I am from a city in Upstate New York and there have been some discussions about supplementing our paid fire department with volunteer firefighters. I would like to know how this is working out in Summit, NJ. Was there a lot of negativity from the paid firefighters? Have the paid firefighters accepted the volunteers as being qualified or do they feel threatened by them? How many people have volunteered and how many have completed the required courses needed to become actively involved with the department? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
