Always sad to see a denomination persecuting its faithful members who, for conscience and scripture's sake, felt they had not recourse but to leave the denomination because the denomination is moving away from historic Christianity to become more like secular society.

I disagree with your characterization of these developments.
In fact, I find your comments to be peculiarly offensive and a slight upon the truth of the matter.
You write, "... but to leave the denomination ..." This is correct. They have openly chosen to depart, forsaking the name and the trademark and the associated identity.
However, Mark Lawrence, anticipating the pursuit, made the prior claim to these identifying measures, leaving The Episcopal Church in the position of proving their claim to these measures and marks.
He has deliberately clouded title, somewhat like an octopus blotting the local vicinity with a cloud of ink while engineering an escape.
Yet, it is obvious that he intends to take property and assets that were very clearly, for a very long time, part of The Episcopal Church.

But before they "became" Episcopal, how long were those same properties in the American colonies Anglican?

That is an excellent question. I don't recall. But, I'm sure it was close to 100 years.
As for the religion or denomination, the association with the Anglican Communion viewpoint is much the same for both.
Obviously, TEC is recognizing an open advance of a non-discrimination principle of inclusion of people other than the male heterosexual into its clergy.
This TEC doctrine represents a problematic view for the majority of the World's Anglican Communion partners. They do not agree with TEC, believing that the adaptation is not in keeping with biblical guidelines and Tradition.
I think their assessment is correct.
However, I think that the Biblical guidelines and Tradition, though they have had their useful day, have become functionally obsolete.
Women have proven themselves to be fully capable of conducting every rite and ritual with the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
The same is now asserted by people who are homosexual. I fully agree.
Homosexuality is now understood to be a normal, minor, yet consistent fraction of the spectrum of Human sexuality. The realization has come through psychological, genetic and cultural advance over the past 60 years.
This realization is very new and not yet fully understood. But, in the view of an increasing number comprised of many across nearly all cultural and socio-political groups, including many spiritual societies, their acceptance and full inclusion represents an inexorable event.
Still, there are others who object vociferously. The backlash to this acceptance is actually murderous in some places, including in many cultures, where in the past, these individuals, though outcasts, were quietly tolerated.
The South Carolina breakaways are not out of the woods. One thing for sure, Joe, is that the breakaways cannot reestablish a chain of title that recognizes the property claims of the King of England and also puts aside the American Revolution.
