There's a man on the bridge wanting to commit suicide; however, he's been on the bridge since about 4:30am.

When people do that crap, they should be encouraged or ignored. If they really want to do it, they won't be talked out of it. This fool today should have to pay for all the expense they cause. Hundreds of people were inconvenienced because this fool wanted attention. Trucks were stopped from making deliveries and people were late for work.

You really don't know what the person was thinking. Mental instability is not something that someone can control. It occurs when people least expect it sometimes.
Too bad for you that your day was not perfect, as you seem it always is. Hopefully whoever that was is now getting help so that this doesn't occur again. Whomever it was who talked this person out of jumping is a hero and should be regarded as such. Suicide attempts should NEVER be taken lightly.

These people that are worried about being late, inconvenienced is just proof that society is totally self absorbed. A person was thinking his only way out was to end his life. That is not a good thing. And then all these posts about shoot him in the legs or jump and get it over with are downright heartless. You may have never thought that things have gotten so bad that ending it all was the only way, but, have some compassion and just for a minute, quit thinking about yourself and wonder that there are people out there, human beings, people with families, people that feel this is a last resort. All of you people that posted mean comments really need to re-evaluate your actual status as a human being

They should have put a sniper on him and shoot his legs out from under him. Problem solved. If he falls off the bridge he got what he wanted, if not charge him, fine him and traffic back to normal
Seriously?? Okay Einstein, if that were to happen then we'd either be paying for them for the rest of their lives along with all their family members due to lawsuits. A couple hours of inconvenienc vs. a death AND a healthy multimillion dollar payout.....?? I'll take the inconvenience anyday. Heartless, ignorant people.......never ceases to amaze me.

Agree! If this person was really going to end their life, they would have jumped at 4:00 that morning when the initial call came in. Instead, this situation turned out to be an over 4 hour ordeal for everyone involved.(The bridge did not close until 6 a.m. and reopened at 10:40 a.m.)

Normally Fayette doesn't release the names of potential jumpers. It's bad for business/tourism in their eyes. So, this "suicidal" jumper may have just stood for over 5 hours at the wrong bridge if they wanted some 15 minutes of fame. Wonder if that jumper would stand at the bridge this morning for over 5 hours in 15 mph winds, teen temperatures, and snow?????? Now, that would really determine if they were really, truly going to kill their self.

Do you even know what "ignorant" means?? It means misinformed.
It's not exactly a cut-down. For someone to suggest that a mentally impaired life should be taken just because it caused a little inconvenience for someone wanting to go to the mall is very heartless.
To the one who said that "Normally Fayette doesn't release the names of potential jumpers. It's bad for business/tourism in their eyes", you are also ignorant (misinformed). The reason the names are not released is because it is a violation of HIPAA laws.
This person needs mental health assistance, NOT arrested and definitely NOT killed. Chemical imbalances can occur without notice and can happen to anyone. Would you want to be shot and killed if this happened to you?? WOW!!! Like I said before: Heartless, ignorant people never cease to amaze me.

Mrs. Murphy, you sound a lot like those soul-less idiots in new york and other cities I've been to. Unbelievable that there are such incompassionate children of satan like you living amongst us. We, in W.va. are caring people who do care about somebody like this jumper even if we don't know them. That is somebodies brother, or dad, or son. When a person is in need we reach out a hand and love them and help them. NOT push them off a cliff and say "oh well! They were inconviencing me and that's what they wanted"! What's your real last name? Silverstein or something similar? You are a fu*ktard and deserve all the evil that is coming for you. It's embarrassing that 'we'(w.va.) have ppl like you living here, moving here. You are the reason why we need to start controlling who moves into our neighborhoods so that we can keep lowlife white trash like you out. I'd hate for a black hearted, satanic demon like you to be my neighbor when and if I am ever in need of a hand or a friend.

I didn't even hear that it was a "he", but since everyone else seems to know it was I'll go with it.
If what you say were true it would be subject to reporting because it would be due to a criminal case. Maybe if it is true what you say we many hear about it later on. At this point all that has been reported and we can judge as "truth" is that someone threatened to jump off of New River Gorge Bridge. To assume anything more only.........well, you know the saying.
Since mental health problems are also covered under the HIPAA laws nothing more can be reported about who it was and why it was (unless it was because of criminal activity).
HIPAA laws were set up to protect people from getting our medical information and is also a way to protect us from something that is no one else's business. If the person was in the middle of the bridge and having a heart attack, it would be no different.

I do think that if he really wanted to kill himself he would've done it way before the police were called. He would've walked on the bridge and jumped off. BUT, he doesn't deserve to die just because he held up traffic for a while. He obviously wanted attention and some help. He just went about getting the help the wrong way. But anyone who has a mental disability doesn't know that. Why do you think the police should've shot his leg and possibly killed him? Not only will his family live with that but the police officer that would do that would have to live with it for the rest of his or her life. Wow you people are cruel. I will pray for this man. That he gets help and guidance.

I also heard the same thing. I guess we will never know. They don't want to ruin the tourist attraction.

"That" guy is someones son, uncle, brother, nephew, grandson, father, husband, and friend. I have no clue who he is or the situation, I have just heard bits and pieces, but he is like everyone else and had a weak moment in his life and needed someone and thankfully the right person was there. Sorry that your little prissy perfect day hit a speed bump. Its a thing called "the world does not resolve around you"!!!

Obviously NO school system has done much for you! You have absolutely no room to talk when it come down to grammatical errors. Was that supposed to be a very long run-on sentence? Was it supposed to be a paragraph and maybe you just forgot to add all the punctuation? The poster was just making a point about the situation at hand and you start talking about the school. That person was just implying that the world doesn't revolve around certain people, and you start telling her that it doesn't revolve around her. She never said it did and didn't seem to act as if it should.

Why would you want to know the story behind it? This person obviously felt like he was at the end of his rope and wanted to end his life. If you have never felt like this you wouldn't understand.. However, meddling in someone elses business is not the way to go about it. Just pray for this person and hope that he seeks the medical attention and therapy that he obviously needs. There's no reason to pass judgement. Give sympathy. You would want the same if you ended up in his shoes.
