Western Coal has 4 locations, 2 strip mines and 2 deep mines. One strip and deep mine in Muddelty, and One strip and deep mine in Kimberly (close to montgomery. From Beckley the Montgomery mines would be closest for you. The main office for applying is in Summersville, in phone book or on yellow pages as Atlantic Leasco. Good Luck to you

My nephew works at maple coal it's near Montgomery. He likes it there. Just stay away from Massey, too dangerous. Some of them ride together, and it saves on gas. I will ask if he knows if they are hiring and post it

my hubby works for them, he works underground. He used to work for massey, and I can tell you this company is way better. He took a small pay cut, but it was closer to home for him. Here is what I can tell you. Instead of Raymond points they give you a cash bonus, which is based on you as a individual rather than your entire crew. They provide your uniforms, rather than you having to pay for them. Also, they had a company picnic this year at Dollywood! I believe the insurance is the same as massey. And they do give you the days off they tell you they are going to, unlike massey. He hasn't worked there long, but so far, so good.

You going to Black Pearl or Maple? I am fairly familiar with Black Pearl. They do a good job taking care of their equipment and they treat the people fair. They are not a big high budget company so sometimes they don't have anything extra to work with. I don't know what the pay scale is but I have never heard anyone worried about their check. I have heard that Frasure Creek over at Oak Hill sometimes has trouble making their payroll.

This company is ruled by the clicks. Be careful who you tell anything to, and if you are a suck ass you will do great, if not, then well, you better watch your back. Randy has his own personal "click" so to speak if you are going underground. They also have a few "village idiots" that I sure as heck would watch out for. If you dare to comment against one of their "click elite" you just might find yourself being given the shaft. The company has also changed hands a few times, and it seems even when the "click elite" are responsible for various violations and dumb mistakes that could get a person hurt, and possible killed, they pass it off to someone else to take the blame. So, go in there and be a suck ass and you will do great! The deep mines doesnt care about talent, or hard work, they care how hard you can kiss butt to their leader. Good luck to you. Be careful, watch your back. As for me, I keep hoping my friend gets smarter and leaves that place.

I'm sorry do you work there? No, so why run off at the mouth about things you do not know? No matter what coal mine you go to there are always going to be suckasses and no matter what coal mine you go to there are ALWAYS going to be rules broke and violations. This company has had problems in the past but that is why there have been big changes and new people brought in. They don't care? Is that why they are cracking down and have let a good bit of men go? No coal mine is perfect so before you put them down because of "hear say" why don't you go apply there and see for yourself. Those men have been working their behinds off 6 days a week, that company is putting clothes on their back, food in their kids mouths. To the one asking about the company, Maple is your only choice right now because Black Pearl is temp. shut down so they floated all those men down to Maple...all in all it is a great company to work for. Great insurance, monthly coal bonuses, retention bonus, great pay...give it a try, if you dont like it then there are other mines

I'm in total agreement with "no clue", there are being large changes within this group, but actually Black Pearl is Idol but will starting up a new face and having the men back hopefully by next Monday. As for kissing anyones ass at Maple, thats not the case. Within every company and i'm not talking about just the coal mines, there's always someone on a power trip, but when it comes to safety and violations, thats going to stop. You have men that know whats going on but yet does not report it until MSHA catches them. Those men were reprimanded and no more will be tolerated. As for this company changing hands, you really need to know the stock market to understand this, but Western Coal is on the Open Market, which can be bought by anyone if the terms are met. Western Coal and Walter Energy has started the process of the merge that was stated in late December to early January. In turn, the company is growing stronger along with the met coal market. In all, Western Coal is a great company and with the current changes being done and met, its only reasonable to say that it is a great company to work for.

I have two family members and a few friends working for this company and they are happy there. No the pay isnt as good if you look at it by the hour but considering they dont make you pay for your health insurance and all the other extras they offer, it is good pay. I dont know anything about clicks and what not. The one bad thing my family talks about is the neighborhood you drive thru to get to Maple. Just keep your doors locked. Good luck to you!

I am starting for Maple SOON . I am thankful for the job. It's hard to find a GOOD job in toodays economy.Especially a job with great pay AND benefits !! I have done alot of research on the company. It sounds to me like they had some problems that wasn't the companies fault. Problems underground lay on the shoulders of the men.If you get violations it's because your men aren't doing their job correctly. I understand the concept of having a "company cleansing". Get rid of the problem and start from scratch. Some people think if you do your job and are enthusiastic about it you are a "suck". JUST MY OPINION.
