Too much stuff to comment on. One thing for sure, Pam Cline possessed no qualifications or ability for her stint as director. Most of the board members are cronies of local politicians, the same ones all of you bow down to, and then secretley talk behind their back. This clanish idea of hiring from within the county is a direct reflection of the what you are claiming the board has done, appointing 'personal' or political friends 'within' the circles they run. As far as keeping things local, buy from local business owners, not the chains, and you will see the balance of power adjusted to reflect a truly independant, smart, foward thinking community. But alas, that will never happen, because most people don't want to see a local guy do well, they'd just rather give their money to Wal-Mart. Look in the mirror, because we have created the problem.

Well said. How does it get corrected though?
The Board and the Mayor are tools for the Fergusons. The Armory is really about their empire, not what is best for the entire community. Can't say that I blame them for wanting it that way. I do blame the people who go along with it.
Gary Withee has been board president for years. Why? He works for the Fergusons. He hired Pam Cline because she doesn't have the skills, intelligence or ability to lead. What she does have is the willingness to follow and that was her greatest asset when hired. Anyone with independent ideas will be maligned, fired, set up or encouraged to leave.
Mike Steadham (AKA Ferguson's bitch) designed her presentation for the job interview. She has no vision or no ability to develop a marketing plan. She used Steadhams vision that supports the Ferguson plan/Empire.
The current staff and perhaps others are doing everything in their power to get rid of the current Director. He is an outsider who isn't interested in playing their political games.

What is it going to take to bring our town back to a place that isn't about the good ole boy network? When will someone step out of the pack and refuse to particpate in the back scratching that goes on all day long in this town?

Very well put, local yocal. We, I think first of all, we have to be individuals. I am stymied sometimes by all of the people that want to be in the 'cool kids clique', like they were still in high school. The fact that they 'gave' the property for the armory to be built on seems on the surface to be noble. Just under the thin veil of nobility lies the real reason. To keep the hotels they own full, and the gas station pumping gas. Gotta give them credit for working their plan, but all of this 'nobility' is just plain ridiculous. Call them out, but you will be singled out, and not many people will openly do this.

For most individual business owners, the armory and all of the attractions it provides do absolutely nothing for anyone other than the food joints, hotels, and gas stations. And the Northside 'Statewide' Sportsline, while it did promote WVU..which is not a bad thing, but it also provided a spot on the WVU basketball team for someone....even our beloved Mountaineers succumb to money. I would be ashamed of myself.

Exactly. Many people see it and discuss it. The problem is when someone steps in and tries to even out the playing field. From the Mayor to some city council members to our city attorney....somebody is always in somebodies back pocket. Common conversations go like this: "You need what? Sorry, not unless you do this or that for me. Ok, you need that? Then I'll vote for you. And then, if I vote for you, then I expect this. " It is never ending.

Look at the current city Recorder. Love her or hate her, she has tried to collect on some monies that had been overlooked for years. As a result, she is labeled a crazy radical who rules with an iron fist. Has she gone too far with some rules? Probably. I doubt we need a permit to change a rug in our bathroom. She lacks some ability in the gray area of business, however, she walked into a position that had been sorely neglected for years! Can't we at least praise her for her efforts to straighten things up? At least she takes her job seriously! There are people who had not paid a water bill in years. Fire Fees for years. B&O taxes for years. Do we have a say so about this? Of course not. We aren't allowed to know such matters! It was another tactic called: Scratch my back and I'll overlook this bill. We have Jeff Asbury and other recorders to thank for that. Jeff Asbury is also on the CVB Board & has shown the same poor performance there as he has as a city councilman.

Well, it does take time for these folks to 'serve' on these boards, and I applaud them for that. But to say that they are the right choice for the position is based on pure politics. To do a good job in many of these positions, you can't care whom you make mad, and because of this, you'll probably not be re-elected or re-appointed. You will be made a martyr by dissenting factions for exposing the system and it's shortcomings. But it's the system we have and more people need to get involved , not just the extremists, and the same old backslappers....

Marie Perry Parsons is no MORE qualified to be city recorder than Pam Cline was to run the CVB and between wOW and LocalYocal, it is CLEAR that it's total matter of jealously of people who will go out on the limb of "serving" the people or attempting to serve the people in our leadership positions. Why is that Marie P. Parsons is more qualified than Pam Cline? She's simply not nor vice versa. You people want to slam people who are simply willing to put themselves out there for others who don't have the nerve to do it. No different is it for the mayor, the governor, etc... and your statements that are attacking of Pam Cline or Jeff Asbury or Gary Withee, or the Fergusons, etc...are evident of pure jealousy. If you paid any attention, when Jeff Asbury was recorder, he collected a $70,000.00 check for the city from people who were doing business in Summersville without getting city licenses. He was working to collect "old" debts, as well. The people you're slamming are good people and if you really knew them, you'd know they do it to try to better this city. I know them all and know where their hearts are. It's a totally thankless job, especially here in Summersville, to fill these leadership roles. You go do it...if you have the guts. If you don't, then don't slam the ones who do.
Just wondering

I just checked out the website, and it reminds me of my hall-way! The "hardwood" just annoyed me. And of course has no upcoming events! Nice job to CVB board members and employees! After viewing the website, I agree with an earlier post. In a nut-shell, it was a waste of City Money and a tax write off for the Fergusons. The City could have done so much more with the money waisted on that Armory!
