You know, I think more people, especially the ones with opinions, should get involved and help with some of the community functions. Regardless of who plans it, it takes alot of work and time. The Potato Festival has gone on for almost 40 years and it is something for the community to do together and for other people to come and participate. If you're not involved and aren't willng to help, then I say you don't knock it. There's alot of work on everyone's part to make a successful function. All the city employees helped, how 'bout a hand for them? Joey Groves and his crew bust their tails and are there long after we've all gone home. Anyone who has a hand in the Potato Festival should be commended for their work and their guts to try to make it better. Camille Ramsey really put alot into the Potato Festival to make it what it is today. Then Reanna Underwood made it bigger last year. And this year, it was even better and they seem to be trying to get a handle on things when it comes to organization. I commend anyone who helped and spent their time doing this for us. Because it's a thankless job. After it's over, then you have to listen to complains and grumbles that it wasn't good enough for some people.

the whole point of this posting was to find out people's opinion about the potato festival. i believe that the opinions given were not criticism...they were opinions. i think that for my family and myself it was too spread out and the vendors were to expensive. i didn't say i anything about not liking it. it just made it hard to enjoy when u have children wanting to go in 2 different directions. also it could have been expensive to feed them. never did i talk bad about the efforts of the organizers. this forum has gotten a little bit of the path.

I do believe they are more positive comments than negative ones. Most said great job to all who helped. I also would think that the people who did work hard on this would want feedback from people. And hey, if you cant take some constructive critisim, then dont bother telling people, especially the ones with opinions, should get involved and help with some of the community functions. Again, GREAT JOB TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED and donated their time! I thought it was a great festival!!

I agree that alot of comments have been good, but "it's my opinion", that most people who share theirs with constructiveness should also maybe consider sharing their help. There are probably reasons that the committee made decisions as to where they placed the rides, etc.. I know Angie Steer and I did hear her say in the beginning that Fran's charges them to use that lot. I've seen in the paper that the city has tried to use the lot between the law office and the Groves building and there's issues there. The old Rich station has roped that lot off and doesn't want anyone there. So where do you go? It's evident that the festival has grown tremendously over the last several years. "My opinion" is that the people who plan and work the festival do the best with what they have and what they can control. That's all. I gave "my opinion" on the festival. Don't think I said you were crap for giving yours.

"If you're not involved and aren't willng to help, then I say you don't knock it."

This is a quote taken directly from your previous post. How does one not think you are bashing those who made improvement suggestions. You sound like one of this years organizers since you are so defensive. I don't recall reading about anyone bashing city workers either. We know they do the bulk of the labor and get very little credit. And, of course there are reasons's things are placed where they are. We don't have all the answers. Just suggestions. One can learn from constructive criticism.
After any event, find out what works, what doesn't and make it even better next year. You won't please everyone but if you are unwilling to even listen, you solve nothing.

No, I'm not part of the organizers...just providing the opposite of your opinion....that maybe there's reasons, and I've just heard some of them from Angie Steer, why the things were done as they were. I was just trying to give another perspective. And I don't have any reason to be defensive. Looks more like you are. I think you're agreeing with me on some of it...like the city workers. I'm perfectly fine with constructive criticism. Just another view different from yours.

Ya know, I went back and read the posts and I really think you guys turned my posts into something else. All they were saying is that maybe you people should get involved and share your ideas and help with the work. Until you get "in the trenches", then maybe you should appreciate what someone else does for the community, that's all. I've spoken to Angie and they would welcome help and ideas.

Now you people are really out of control. I never once said I was good friends with Angie, just that I knew her. And we did have a conversation or two about the festival. I think most of you are on here just to stir things up with other people who don't exactly share your view. You're just silly somtimes. Have a great day.

For someone not directly involved, you are getting way uptight about this thread.
People had opinions, you didn't like them (unless they were 100% complimentary of the Spud planners) & suggested the posters shouldn't have negative comments. We pointed out your inconsistency when you denied doing it.
Since it was to be a constructive criticism thread, one would assume not all comments will favorable. Now you claim we are the ones being defensive. I don't want to be on your debate team. LOL

I really don't think you can tell if I'm uptight or not. It goes both ways. I was just making my comments on the PF. You seem to be the one who's seeking out inconsistancies in my posts. Who the hell cares. I guess I'm just not perfect like you and might have inconsistancies and might have spelled a name wrong. I didn't ask you to be on my debate team. LOL At least I'm not being negative, which is the way alot of people are on this sight. More people should try to find the good in what people do and if you think it should be better, offer your help.

Angie Steer?
I thought Susan Hillary ran the potato festival. Last I heard, she organizes all the festival's now.
