What does people think about the Girl Scouts selling cookies at a bar?? They may have been outside, but I don't think that is a good place for young girls to be. I think that leaders/parents ought to be teaching them better than that. If that is what Girl Scouts do, I'm not going to let my daughter join when she starts school next month.

I think the point is, that is not the proper place for young girls. This troop leader must have no respect for herself or her girl scouts or she wouldn't have done this. Young girls are very impressionable and I don't think that this is the proper environment for them or any child for that matter.

I have found that nothing matters anymore...people have made thing that are wrong become right. Ten years ago when my girls were in GS this would of never even been considered but now people just don't think anything about having kids at bars, around pedophiles or drug addicts. I'm not saying that people at the tractor bar are any of those things. I'm just saying in general people don't care. This generation is going to really messed up.

There were tons of people there and a great opportunity for the girls to sell cookies. When I walked by there was plenty of adult female supervision. I saw people drinking beer but no body appeared drunk. FYI not everyone there was drinking. There were tons and children having a good time with what appeared to be responsible adults. I think people need to worry about their own childen. I am willing to bet the people complaining don't have children in girl scouts and would never volunteer to be a leader.
Better yet probably couldn't pass the background check. I see girls scouts selling cookies outside Walmart. You know they sell beer. I am sure just as many drug addicts and child molesters shop at Walmart. There are evil people everyplace you go. Even church.

I know right.... like at Wal-Mart. Kids are more likely to be kidnapped or sexually assaulted there than the Tractor Bar. Oh, BTW.... Applebee's is a bar. Wonder how many "holier than thou" parents who are ragging out over a parade that raises money a local scholarship (which your child may receive), Ronald McDonald House, etc. take their kids there? Hmmm.......... Do I sense a HYPOCRITE??????????

The point is that a bar, even one that gets involved in a community, is not a place for kids. It's still a bar.

I guess they better not sell them on Main Street either cause of the bar on the corner by the court house and the mayor's place down the street. Can't sell them at Walmart because they sell beer. Can't sell them near applebee's, they serve beer. we need to set up a big sanitary bubble for the girls so they can go in and let people buy their cookies.

As a former girl scout leader, I am shocked and disappointed that a troop leader would willingly subject her troop of girls to that kind of environment. As for the comments about WalMart and other places that serve beer, yes they serve beer, but I have never seen dozens of people outside these places drinking. I personally think that NO children should be outside any bar, anyone that lives around here knows of the reputation that the tractor bar has. The St. Patrick's Parade is a community gathering, but I think they can find a more appropiate place for the children to gather.

Children do not need to be exposed to alchaholics.
Parnets are supposed to set a good example for thier children, they will find all the bad as they grow up without parents or scout leaders encouragement.

Excuse me, if you feel it was such a terrible place for anyone to be, why were you there? The GS teach girls to be tollerant of everyone. Even people as ignorant as you. The St. Patricks Day parade is a wonderful opportunity for fund raising. I wanted my daughters troop to participate, but we were unable to get anything organized in time. Steve Brown is a very giving person, and his charity event should be given kudos. Not talked about like it was some hellish place for children to be! Alcohol is sold EVERYWHERE these days, so why dont you just stay home and leave everyone else alone? Wait, maybe the Amish would take you in, but you would down that too, because at the age of 16 to 21 they drink and party freely. We cant hide our girls behind our skirts anymore, they need to know how to operate in the real world!

I am a GS Leader and there is no way I would allow my girls to participate in this. I don't know what the girls troop learns, but the ones in my do not learn that it is ok to go somewhere there alcohol is the main attraction. I did not and will not go anywhere near Mt. Nebo during the parade. Steve Brown may use this as a fundraiser, but the point is kids do NOT belong near a bar, fundraiser or not. I also know that the GS council in Charleston was not happy when they found out that there was a troop that had set up their cookie sale outside of the bar. This is a fact, because I called Charleston myself, after several people commented about them being there. The director of the cookie sale for the entire state said that that was NOT the appropiate spot and something would be done about it!!!

Hey GS, Alcohol is not the main focus of the parade. It's the parade and the scholorship fund of two of Mt. Nebo's fine young men,. One of which served YOUR country. You may want to educate yourself. I was there participated and guess what??? I didn't drink. I had a wonderful time. Leave this decision to a volunteer that used her own judgement. You may not agree, that's your right. ENOUGH!
