I find this to be an interesting topic, one to stir the mind's of many and to rest on common drama for a while, and share idea's from personal experience and/or research. Did your need for "Prepping" begin by watching the popular television show "Doomsday Preppers" or the awareness of a changing world?

You know that show is only entertainment. A real prepper would never tell what he is planning or show what he has and where he has it.

Prepping has been a common practice for centuries. What fascinates me are the challenges that accompany prepping, and I would love to see others become more involved at least for your families sake.

i try to be self reliant but realize that to be totally so in all areas is impossible--is not there a warning written to a group of people that tells about the dangers of saying "i have need of nothing"--if we were meant to stand alone then we would be alone--nothing wrong with being single but people need people

every person should try to be prepared for a natural disaster, like the blizzard or the wind storm we had last year. Someday it may be worse, or the dollar may collapse. It really doesn't take much, spend an extra 10 or 20 dollars at the store when you buy your groceries and get canned food. When you see you have a little extra money instead of buying a new dvd or whatever, buy a kerosene lamp and some lamp oil.Once you have that buy some extra wicks, batteries, a rubbermade container to keep your supplies in and that might prevent you from using them before you actually need them.

Prepping has become a community in itself in recent years due to high criticism over conspiracy theorists. Some people prefer to believe that naturally they are safe in all aspects of their lives, but contrary to belief not one person is actually "safe" from every single threat to human life. Some form of preparation is needed even if it were a universal prep covering a broad spectrum of events. Preparing for extreme weather event's would be a good universal start to your preps. Purchase extra foods and water, and other beneficial items to get you by for at least 3 day's, preferably for 2 weeks.

You mean like those people that are pushing three carts at the first of the month?

And there are those who don't or will not take prepping seriously. I recall a story that I heard in Kindergarten, of the careless grasshopper and the ant. The ant prepared essentials all summer for the long winter ahead while the grasshopper on the other hand, he chose not to prepare until it was too late.
