While waiting for a family member at the ER last night I noticed that some people, not alot, but a few, were getting quite upset about the exstreamly long wait to see a doctor. After six hours of waiting for my family member I was going to get on here and complain on how slow the ER is. However, after a good night sleep I studied on the problem and realized why the ER is so slow. They are over welmbed with non-emergancy cases. Headaches, colds, flues, poison-ivy and so on. I understand that these things can be discomferting, but there not EMERGANCY's. An appointment to their family doctor and a trip there is more logical than crowding the ER and pushing demands on doctors who are busy with true EMERGANCY'S like lacorations, chest pains, head trama and so on. Yes the hospital boasted that with the new addition they would be quicker. Somedays they are, but when their down to one doctor, two nurses and every room filled up, and the waiting room over flowing, well its kind of hard. So please, if you find yourself sitting in the ER and your not bleeding from a wound, having a heart attack, have a head trama, or your limbs hanging by a thread...... don't complain. Just be thankful that you have a hopsital to go to, and maybe, just maybe next time you will call and make an apointment with your family doctor instead. Just Saying

This is the exact reason and causes for the extremely long waits sometimes...

I agree completely, too many people coming in for sniffles or a cough of belly ache. These days people goes in if they get a fart side ways.. It's no wonder there's such a long wait.

Been to e.r.'s with very few patients and had just as long to wait while you see the doctors and nurses standing around talking and laughing and all the while I am in extreme pain. I do believe extreme pain to be an emergency especially when it first began and had no knowledge of what it was. A lot of people who use emergency rooms are people with no insurance who cannot see a regular doctor therefor have to go to the emergency room because they cannot turn them away for treatment. Before I had insurance I was actually turned away from a doctor's office because I was paying cash and had no insurance. Silly. Guess it didn't work for them because the doctor's office is there no longer lol. Also, don't discredit the so called discomfort of a headache, as a migraine, cluster and stress headache sufferer they can make you want to go to extremes to stop the pain.

A lot of people are paying in monthly installments with a percentage added on also, mostly the ones in between earning too much for assistance but not earning enough to pay insurance premiums or for some other reason not being able to get insurance.

I go to Braxton Health Associates in Gassaway when something happens after hours or on a weekend. I've had real good luck with them.

Last Night I was in severe pain and decided to try another hospital and Went to Raleigh General, i ended up having Gull Stones and will have to have surgery. The Er was very crowded appx 8 different sets of folks and a Ambulace came in about 10 min after i got there. I was still back in my own room within 20 minutes and seen by a actual doctor within that hour. Everyone was very nice professional and i was in and out in 3 hours. My first time going to that ER and i was impressed. I know there are bad cases everywhere you go regardless of hospital but all i can speak on is my only time there and it was very good compared to care around here.

Had this been at Summersville this wouldve taken 7 hours and i wouldve probably been diagnosed with a stomache ulcer. Then i wouldve gotten to hear how its not the hospitals fault it takes so long and they are dealing with so so much and how they have to deal with alot of pill heads and pointless petty illness stuff. Geee i guess pill heads and morons with poison ivy dont exist anywhere else but here.

This hospital needs a change from top to bottom and i am sick and tired how greatful we should be we just have a hospital.

Any job a person does they should be required to strive for better. The answer isnt just be greatful we have something, or look at what we have to deal with, its called fix the problems and do better.

Excuses regardless of valid or invalid dont fix problems. WORK fixes problems. Heaven forbid we actually start hearing about how great our little hospital is instead of well its terrible but here's why!

There is the truth. 99% of these people have no insurance. They go to the ER because the people there have to treat them. That is why the hospitals are going broke. Welcome to wild wonderful welfare West Virginia. Pills and welfare only thing in this state. Because no one else wants to live here. The economy sucks because of the poor politicians who only worry about a piece of coal. Because the coal companies line their pockets with gold.

<quoted text>If you should happen to have a heart attack or stroke do you think you can make it to Beckley to be healthnetted out?? If you had a good experience at Raleigh General, then stick with it. I have an elderly parent who has had brain bleeds and has been in the ER many times at Summersville, in a critical condition and have always seen a PA, both of whom I have been very impressed with. My parent had to be transported to Charleston and yes, we had to wait quiet awhile to get all the test results, but it was diagnosed and the problem was taken care of. We were down there this weekend and there were lots of people waiting, but no one had any idea they were "all", doctors and PA's, saving a guy's life who had been stung by a bee!! People are the first to criticize, without knowing the facts. Complain about Summersville if you want, but we will continue there, because other than the wait, we have always received the care we need. If you are satisfied with Raleigh General, continue there, but just remember, you may have an emergency and have to go to Summersville, and if they save your life or diagnose you illness, then you may have to eat your words! Just sayin!
If Summersville was good, why would they have to be sent to Charleston?

I speak of ER's in general. I have been to a few. Different people have different experiences. The one in Lewisburg is a horrible experience for me when i have had to go. Long waits, bad attitudes and have had many friends with and without insurance share similar grievances.I even know of someone whose leg was crushed and was left sitting in the ER for a long period of time although that was sometime back, horrid. But, when I take my grandmother there you couldn't ask for better service. They get on the ball and take excellent care of her.
