Methamphetamine, crack cocaine, weed, this guy was all wired up. His wife of only 6 years is lucky to still be alive. Must not have learned how to shoot very well at the police school. He should have turned the gun on himself and ended it. He looks pretty tired and wore out, ready to give up the ghost.

Here come the cop bashers.

The police can't Baker Act someone if they don't meet the criteria, and can't arrest someone who hasn't committed a crime.

But the cop haters will still bash these officers for not "doing something" to prevent this.

Like what, idiots?

There is no magic crystal ball that the police have that they can use to predict that someone who didn't commit a crime, hadn't threatened to, and didn't meet the criteria for a involuntary mental examination, would later murder someone.

But they will expect this, watch and see the later posts.

Boy, you sound like a very angry individual. Maybe, YOU need to seek help for that anger problem before you go off and do something STUPID like this person did. However, you are right, the officers did their job to the best of their ability's. I can't imagine what they could have done differently.

If the cops arrested or Baker Acted everyone who was depressed, the jails and hospitals would be overflowing.(Not to mention the ACLU would be up in arms!) Everyone wants to blame some.

Anger problem? What are you talking about? I do dislike the morons who come on here groundlessly bashing our cops just because they hate them, and my post adressed that feeling. But anger problem that will cause me to do something stupid??? Just because a post isn't all warm, fuzzy, happy, and full of flowers and love doesn't make the poster an angry nut on the brink of violence. You've been listening to way to much psychobabble B.S.

One of the women's children just posted on the daily commercial site that this was a known fact (that this guy was off his rocker). Does that mean he was abusive and they knew it? It is not a far stretch to then say the police knew about it. I remember many well publicized cases where the police knew a man was abusive yet did nothing. And of those who are not public, the cops still do nothing. State attorney often refuses to prosecute even with a willing victim. Is it any wonder Lake County has a rash of dv crimes?

It is because this attitude is very prevelant - which is why I moved. I want to live in the year 2008, not 1900 thank you very much.

To the family, I wish your mother, sister, aunt a speedy recovery.

How this individual avoided felony convictions for his crimes in Georgia is beyond me. I know that we, as cops, can get away with the occasional misdemeanor (DV, DUI, Petit Theft and the always necessary perjury) but a felony? Georgia law enforcement really knows how to take care of its own.

Hey SuperLeo,

You have just described the reason the public has lost all respect for law enforcement. You have put yourselves in the same category as lawyers. The end justifies the means.
"Always necessary Perjury" All you cops that think its necessary to lie
to get a conviction should be put in jail with the ones you lie on.

Thank God in Central Florida in the old days I never heard of an officer
who would ever stoop to lie for a conviction. If they did we didn't know about it. What good are laws if
the enforcers are the main violators.
If you're Catholic please go and say
10 Hail Mary's. Then check into heqq.
Your are as bad as a murderer to commit these crimes.

No need for Cop bashers when you have Cops like SuperLeo. He lie's
on reports and witness stands and tells the truth on blog's. He's a self basher. No Brains toting a gun.
Respect commands respect. When these
idiots are weeded out and honest people are in law enforcement the public will quit bashing them. Most of these bloggers are not criminals, but a lot of them have been mistreated by supposed to be law enforcement officers like SuperLeo.
It leaves a bad taste in their mouth.

I'm with WFT, the headline could have been written with better taste. The beat reporters don't write the headlines, the editors do. Like I said, poor choice of words I think.... Makes Law Enforcement look like they can't make good decisions. But they would be the first to jump on the bandwagon if a bad arrest was made. I have always said "when in doubt blame the COPS".

I'm glad the estranged wife survived the murder attempt on her life. I wonder if this former cop had been properly punished this situation would not have occurred. Sounds as if his problems were swept away by the brotherhood in blue.

Clearly SuperLeo is a troll looking to stir up nonsense on these boards. Any good cop KNOWS that you don't have to lie to get a conviction, nor do you have to lie for any reason in this job. There are plenty of criminals out there committing actual crimes that need arresting.
