Returned again on March 15. All the trash on the outside of the gate was cleaned up by Jeremy, the drive way and parking area was cleared. Chunks of the boulders blocking the main passage is being broken up, dirt washed back in was removed and slowly the passage is being mapped. The entrance and the clay filled first chamber are now measured and mapped. Planning to return next week.
The TERRANAUT CORPS have a Lake and Marion County chapter now and the head of the Marion chapter discovered a new cave a few miles to the north of the tribe's property.

As more people join the Terranaut Corps, regional chapters have been formed. Orange is the primary location of the tribe which manages the over all group, Marion was the first, followed by Citrus and Pasco. A newsletter is being resurrected specifically for the Terranaut Corps.

Weather and a work schedule changes delayed the next trip to Thursday, April 10. Jeremy, his father and Wendie trimmed the tall foliage from the shed and lodge area and removed some small trees from the driveway and parking area before joining me inside the cave. I had mapped the next sections of the cave up to the break down which we spent more time breaking up. Jeremy's generator kept having to have its breaker reset as the power feed went on and off. The three separate boulders (mostly chert) are about a foot smaller after this trip.

We returned to the Dragon Cave on Thursday, April 24. Great things were accomplished on this trip but the dragon wanted blood in return. Jeremy broke up the boulder barricade to the point where we can walk over them instead of having to climb over them. However, his pounding the chert resulted in many, sharp, miniature arrow heads becoming airborne which hit both sides of his mouth, drawing blood. Leaving the cave, he cut his arm too.
A new passage appears to have opened directly above the climb in ledge, but it initially appears it is a tunnel of clay... that will be explored later. I opened the restriction at the top of the fissure crossing and removed dirt, and some trash, from the over head passage to a distance of ten feet and it still goes.
The next trip will involve removing the dirt and as many of the rocks as possible from the cave.
The next issue of The Subterranean is now posted at FaceBook.

Went to this cave with a few of my friends and it was so awesome! We parked a few blocks away to make sure we didn't get caught, it was really clean and I hope it stays that way. It had multiple staircases and was easy to go through. It was by far the largest cave I had been through yet. You can tell a lot of it is man made(meaning man altered it in order to make it easier to go through) but it is still really cool to through
Could you give specific directions on how to get there? I only live down the street but i dont know where the entrance or anything is. Please?

To get to Lucky Cave? You have to have the land owner's permission. Locals have again vandalized the cave leaving trash and spray paint on almost every wall. There was no report of the vandals having entered the break down room in the back. With the Central Florida Cavers now extinct, I am not sure who makes arrangements with the land owner for visits to the cave... I imagine the FSS may still have arrangements, but the Tampa Bay Area Grotto went there recently.
If you want to help out in our cave, come to the Terranaut Corps Face Book group, download the waiver, you can digitally sign it and send it to me and you can go the our cave with the head of the Marion Chapter of the Terranaut Corps to work in the cave when we are not there. He goes to the property, with our permission on a card we issue, to do work we have to wait to do for us and to further work on the cave, he could use additional help for safety reasons. The neighbors have been keeping an eye on the property to keep the trespassers out.

I could contact the land owner and see who the present contact is or make arrangements for the head of our Marion Chapter to lead trips to Lucky.

A letter was sent to the owner of Lucky cave. The head of our Marion Chapter is more then happy to lead trips to Lucky Cave. The big, break down room in the back was never mapped. I mapped out new passage I found back there but never had the chance to map the break down room itself. The head of the Marion chapter brought a new member of the Terranauts to our Dragon Cave today along with a visit to the closed Dragon's Lair and Fissure Caves and even went north to Speedway Quarry Cave.

Heading up to Dragon Cave tomorrow with the majority of the Marion Chapter of the Terranaut Corps. We will be removing all the dirt that was pulled out of the Cross Fissure passage on the last trip and pulling out as many of the broken up rocks as possible before continuing to dig out the continuing passages. The Marion Chapter has been going on lots of caving trips, Speedway Quarry, Dragon's Lair, Fissure, Vortex Pit, Waldo, the Withlacoochee caves and they can go to Dragon to do work when ever they please as they have the tribe's authorization to be there. If anyone wants to join them on a trip let me know and I will put you in touch. Still no word from Lucky Cave's owner yet.

The May 18 trip to Dragon Cave made a great deal of progress. Jeremy turned the boulders into a pile of smaller rocks, I found that he fissure crossing is a vertical fissure filled with dirt (that is probably walkable once the rock projections are removed), we discovered the probability of a chamber behind the wall in the main passage that may connect to the fissure crossing. Fissure Crossing appears to have more passage on the southeast side which needs to be opened from the main passage. We found bones of at least two animals buried in the dirt in the Fissure Crossing. We removed a lot of dirt and some of the rocks from the cave and again Jeremy and his daughter were again nipped by dragon, drawing blood.

June 01, 2014- The rock barricade in the center of the passage is now gone. Most of the debris has been removed from the cave. There is still a lot of dangerous rock to remove and lots of debris to remove from the continuing passages. The remains of the big rock,is still too heavy to removed from the cave, it will have to be broken up a bit more. More dirt was removed from the Fissure Crossing passage and there was the smell of old garbage (perhaps the bones of the coyote? and its pups is not as old as one might think). The dirt filling this passage is almost completely dry and was pushed in from somewhere to the west (heading towards the dry spring on the neighbor's property). Topside, there is no evidence of where the animal or the dirt may have entered.

July 15- Another trip to the cave, the map was basically finished even though there are 7 diggable leads. We must sell both parcels. We ask $7500 each. Both have caves, one is only accessible by vehicle on the adjoining parcel which is also for sale for $4500. We have been maintaining this parcel and were suppose to purchase it. The county refuses to honor its agreements and we can not afford the taxes. The smaller parcel is accessible by car and sits along side a manufactured home. A map of the location of all the cave entrances along this unmaintained road will be provided. Anyone interested?

Does anyone have directions on how to get to the cave in brick city park?

If you are coming from lady lake, head north on 441 until you come to a curve where 464a continues north and 441 turns to the northwest. Follow 464a until you come to a small road called SE 22nd Road. Brick City Park is on the north side as is the entrance to the park. You can also look it up on google maps.

The exploration and dig out of Dragon Cave continues.

It's to the east of the sports track-field in the old quarry. The cave is gated and I am not sure if the staff allows people to go into the quarry. In a satellite photo you can see the outline of the quarry in the trees.

And do you know where it is in the quarry?

It is at the base of the quarry wall, a white wall-hence the name White Cliffs. I am not sure which wall, but the area is kept clear since the gate is in the floor, placed into what was once a wider crevice opening. this gives the area an artificial look as compared to the rest of the quarry. I have never been there, but I don't think you can miss it once you are down there... if they let you go down into the quarry.
You are aware of course that you can't get into the cave unless you go during scheduled trips, right?

April's trip to Dragon Cave had only me doing the in cave work. There is too much dirt in the upper portion of the Cross Fissure to safely remove from the lower section, so I started making the opening to the upper section wider. A mouse took up residence. I removed three bags of dirt and clay from the live end and moved a large rock.
The access parcel will officially be owned by the tribe within a week as the law firm handling the sale awaits the documents from the owners. this parcel has six confirmed, small openings, that lead to an unexplored passage of Dragon.

June 7, 2015- We removed 6 cubic feet of dirt from the Cross fissure passage of DRAGON CAVE and found at least six more feet of dirt filled passage beyond. Jeremy discovered a magnetic anomaly at the entrance of the Cross Fissure that deflected all four compasses up to 40 degrees from magnetic north. The next visit in June will be to work on the bathroom.
The FaceBook group, and my account, will be coming to an end tomorrow night. Anyone wanting to receive the newsletter by email need to contact me.
