Here again is a reason we real American citizens would like the illegal alien population to be reduced to legal only. We would have to be legal and have documentation to prove it in any other country to be eligible to receive their benefits, if even then. When you shop these days in the stores you see a hispanic woman , husband or father of her 4 or 5 little children as well as the one she is pregnant with. They usually have 3 carts heaping and pay for it with food stamps. Then there are those of us who are true blue, born and raised American citizens, who work hard for our money, ineligible for any assistance because we work, with one cart and not near full, hoping we have enough money to pay for our food and that it lasts till next payday and still have enough left to pay utilities and other bills. What's wrong with this picture?

lady a,

I hear ya. I have one child and when I had her on formula it was all i could do to buy the one can a week. There would be an 18 year old unmarried girl with her WIC voucher that would allow her to put multiple cans of formula in her basket free of charge.

I carefully choose what goes into my basket and I've never had 2 baskets full of food in the store. They should be thanking us on their way out of the checkout for paying for their groceries and ours.

There needs to be a limit on how long people are on food stamps and what they can buy with them. Most of the time they eat better than the people who work! They have expensive cell phones, nice name brand clothes, cable tv etc. so obviously they aren't using their money wisely. I'm sick of paying for everyone's way when they are capable of working. I work for my food and shelter so should they. It pisses me off when they are living a stress free life while others struggle to make ends meet. I know there are those who truly need welfare but it's not something that you are supposed to live off of the rest of your life unless you're truly disabled. IF YA CAN'T FEED EM DONT BREED EM!!

Most of the people I saw through my lines with food stamps were white and most of them were just buying normal things but there are a lot that get luxury items instead of regular food (do you NEED to get expensive coffee with your food stamps? i doubt it).

I have never had 2 baskets full of groceries either, I have had wic before and it was a god send, why are you not on wic? If it has to do you making too much money then you should have had no problenm buying that one can a week, I currently recieve food stamps because my husband lost his jobs yes plural, just like the many other americans right now in this economy, and we have them because we dont make as much as we did a year ago, he got a new job but at a way lower pay rate than he was making in the past, he works he pays his taxes and the last thing I will do is thank you for paying for my groceries, sometimes ppl just get in a rut and need help. I will say that there are people that abuse the system, I am not one of those, when I make the income again that disqualifies me I will not get them, got help us all if you ever need some foodstamps, you would probably starve before you get help huh? Instead of being grateful that you are able to feed your child tonight? Not all of us can be as lucky as you.

When using WIC vouchers, the customer must use up all "credit" on that specific voucher in a single purchase. It is possible, that "unmarried girl" was buying an entire month's worth of baby formula. The vouchers are given expiration dates and must be redeemed by that date or become void. There are also plenty of "married girls" who use WIC to feed their babies too. It is so easy to pre-judge the other person next to us at the check-out line. Why?
I will always remember back in summer of 1986; having been laid-off recently from my job, when the T.G.& Y. stores, warehouse, and main office were shut down. I was that "unmarried girl" raising two young sons on my own and trying to get by on a small amount of unemployment compensation. I was in the grocery store's check-out line with my two young sons and my friend/co-worker from the main office; paying with paper food stamps. I will never forget, the loud cruel remarks made by someone behind me to humiliate us in front of everyone. I was young and shy, and simply ignored them.
At my age now 54, it would have been a different story...
I was not a lazy, worthless, stereotypical "welfare mom" mooching off the government.
I had worked every day to earn my keep and provide for myself and my sons.
No one knew my situation and had no right to be cruel or judge me in that manner.
You never know their personal situation or circumstances, therefore do not judge.
You might be the one in line paying with food stamps someday!

Stress free life? Where in the Hell did you get that idea?
I can assure you; there are people who do not even have a cell phone, wear only thrift store or hand-me-down clothes, and don't earn enough money to spend it unwisely. You obviously don't know what it means to truly struggle to make ends meet.
If you had a clue, you might understand what it's all about.

The solution to the state's food stamp program crisis; is to bring good paying jobs to our state.
That way, people can earn enough money, to buy their groceries without using a food card.

How can you look at your self in the mirror and tell how hard it is on your family because your husband lost two jobs and now works for less money, while you sit at a computer and pay an internet provider and talk about how you struggle, Cancel your internet, sell your computer , get off your a$$ and get a d%%% job.

Too many people bumming and slumming and buying junk and shit they don't need and that's a FACT. If you go to any grocery store you'll see it and it's not a lie. People are buying crap junk food instead of nutritious foods--- they are wasting money on crap instead of necessities. It's all massive fraud and abuse. I say the solution is simply cut the benefits back.

Sorry, you don't need soda and chips and snacks and ice cream and candy. You want to buy that crap use your own money.

You people are amazing at your judge and jury stuff. I have a daughter disabled since birth and because she lives in my home she is not allowed to even apply for food stamps. Thats fine because I would consider it humiliating anyway. We get by only by the grace of God. Don't judge others if you don't know their circumstances. You are being really hateful on here.

Amen Obe!

Obviously some people have never heard of the term "working poor". You know, those people who do work but are either underpaid or underemployed, and though they work as hard as anyone, still can't manage to support their families. And then there are all those who have lost their jobs in this horrible economy. A TracPhone is hardly a luxury. For that matter, whoever said people should sell their computers and disconnect their internet if they've lost their job and that they should feel bad for sitting around posting on these forums, etc.... are you for real? You know what, alot of companies require applicants to apply ONLINE... Radio Shack just to name one. I don't think dumping your pc and internet is going to help you find a job, but it might make you miss out on one. And if you have kids they need computers to help them keep up with their peers academically.... unless you want the next generation to need assistance too. Oh yeah... and last time I checked, there aren't enough jobs out there for everyone to work right now.

Some people are clueless. But what they lack in knowledge they make up for in insensitive, thoughtless, comments full of hatred.

There are people who really need food stamps, and there are many that don't need them and just take advantage of the system so their lives can be easier so they can use their real earned money to buy junk they don't even need.

I see it every month. I work at a retail store and I can tell who actually needs the help, and who is just abusing the food stamp system. Not just whites and blacks, it's every race.

They should make people prove that they need government assistance and for everyone who applies to give deep information about their home info and job info, make calls to be sure everything checks out rather than taking their word for it. I don't know how things go when applying since I don't need it and also because I'm too proud to have anyone give me and my family extra support. If you need extra money, stop being lazy and get another job on the side, or stop racking up debt and stop making babies.

What happen to drug testing to b eligable for food stamps? If they would drug test and bust the ones that are frauding the system they could solve alot of problems. I agree if you need them go get them ,but my god try and get off of them dont stay on them the rest of your life.

Exactly what I was just thinking,I am a divorced mother I have 7 children and I work my @$$ of to provide for them. I suffer from Epilepsy and a Degenerative bone disease yet I support my children NOT THE STATE !! I do not receive a dime in child support either, If I can provide for 7 then they should be able to provide for 1 .

The bad thing is that I know people out there that are lieing and saying they are not with their spouse (separated) and are on food stamps when they make plenty of money but used it on cell phones (600 dollars) instead of using it on food! It makes me sick because I was a single mom of two and another on the way and never got assistance yet LOSERS out there are! They should have to prove of a separation when they are married! If you can't feed your kids then don't have them but stop lieing and taking away from the people who REALLY do need the help!!!!!!!
