Love how they dance around everything but the real question.

IMPORTANT BALLOT QUESTION:

This November, voters will have the opportunity to consider allowing the City of Sugar Hill to exercise Redevelopment Powers for the improvement of blighted or economically depressed areas. In addition to voting for elected officials for the general municipal election, the Tax Allocation District question will be on the ballot for the upcoming special election. The Ballot will ask the following question:

The question to be voted upon:

REDEVELOPMENT POWERS ACT

Shall the Act be approved which authorizes the City of Sugar Hill to exercise redevelopment powers under the “Redevelopment Powers Law,” as it may be amended from time to time, for the purpose of improving economic and social conditions in depressed areas within the city?

() YES

() NO

Where in that ballot question does it mention how much it will cost taxpayers or is the allowable amount to be spent unlimited?

Someone needs to explain how Sugar Hill taxpayers are going to get a $24 million return on investment and that doesn't even count interest and any cost overruns.

Wake up Sugar Hill, there's a pickpocket heading for you!!!

<quoted text> These clowns running Sugar Hill City Gov. think we have got to match, Suwanee and Buford Courthouses,(KEEP UP WITH THE JONES MENTALLY) but we that live here in Sugar Hill know we can't afford that, we don't have that kind of tax base(COMMERCIAL).The home owners will have to foot the bill.
For 24 million dollars I think they have something like the Cumming City Hall in mind. Maybe it will come complete with a spa, several community hot tubs (like the Romans did), a fully stocked bar, a movie theater and a brothel. Considering Sugar Hill's origins, they should also include a few stills.

I think you're right, it's seething jealousy. Having a smaller city hall than their neighbors must make them fell insecure and puny.

It's just a matter of keeping up with the Jones' now that Buford, Suwanee and Cumming have nicer city halls. Kinda reminds me of the Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette syndrome. Build the palace and let them eat cake!

My income, this year, was much higher than expected. I have been wondering just what in the heck I could do with the extra. I'd ike to officially sponsor one the solid gold faucets in the men's restroom, please.

"Bystander" where did you get your figure of 24 Million? I'm hearing talk of SPLOST taking care of most of a 8-9 Million dollar project. Which is accurate and what sources can you cite?

The source is from one of your work sessions. At first it was a 42,000 square foot,$24 mil grand palace with a reflecting pool. Once word leaked out and the boos-tweeds realized there was political hell to pay, the "official" line changed to "oh, it's only a 30,000 square foot,$8 mil project.

That went quickly from 8 mil to 8.5 mil and now it's 9 mil. When Pickle, Sullivan and that Tanner character get elected the palace cost will rocket right back to 24 mil.

You clowns provide so little for the SH citizens, you should probably sell city hall and move into a barn. If nothing else, the smell there would be appropriate.

Who cares what the actual number is...it is more than sugar hill has to spend and it is nothing more than another frivolous waste of taxpayer's money just to make the team in office leave a legacy. Why not do things that will benefit the residents? Maybe I'll run in the next election if I my sensibilities take a vacation.

Let me know who the right candidates are and I will tell everyone that will listen.

We are fed up with this self-serving bunch.

I'll confess, the actual, real dollar cost of both the new city hall and how much is actually in the SH piggy bank have eluded me too since they are moving targets. The numbers seem to change every week.

They have either 16 or 17 mil in the bank only because of overtaxing and overcharging gas customers. What a fine accomplishment for a bunch of crooks.

As for the new city hall, who knows what the real cost will be but I just love Bob "Mr. Ego" Hails' statement in the GDP of how "grand" the new city hall will be and the need for a "reflecting pool".

Hey Mr. Hail and Mayor Pickle, do either of you care to deny that public statement? Please tell me Mr. Bob and Mr. Pickle, how exactly will a reflecting pool outside your new luxury office benefit the average citizen?

Good luck with concocting an answer because there aren't any but give it your best shot anyway. Bye-bye to you both.

Hey Celest, the right guys are Andy, Scott and Curtis. OK?

Thanks Lipton. We are spreading the word.

Saw a poster for Sullivan at a local restaurant with his "smiling" blow hole on it. Must be smiling from the half truths and the pocket lining he must have collected in office. Gotta admit it turned my stomach. Well there are plenty of other places to eat (oh of course except not in Sugar Hill).

Heard they had $16 million accounted for. Between a City Hall, this team park, and the famous downtown development - there has to be a deficit coming soon.

What do you know about this Tanner guy? yet another on the enemy minion it seems - completely wrapped around Pirkle, Sullivan, Thompson it seems. His 20 months on Planning Dept Board has given him oh so much insight into the City and its issues - probably the extent of knowledge is what Sullivan tells him.

Back to my earlier question I will quote the famous Emily Littlella - "Never Mind"

Good luck to the "RIGHT GUYS" - you got my vote and those of at least a couple hundred of the honest folk.

This is right off of Sullivan's Facebook page:

"People have asked about the up coming election. There are three positions open: Position 4, Position 5, and the Mayor. I'm in Position 5 and an incumbent. Gary Pirkle is running for re-election as the Mayor, and I think he has done an excellent job. Pirkle is a consensus builder and is always willing to listen to both sides of an issue. Position #4 is currently held by Nick Thompson and Thompson is not running for re-election. Shohn Tanner has stepped forward for his position. Shohn has been on Sugar Hill's Planning and Zoning Board for almost 2 years. I've watched Tanner in leadership positions. He has a way of focusing people on the positive and getting things done, which makes me think he will do a wonderful job if elected.

Both Gary Pirkle and Shohn Tanner have my endorsements."

Guess this proves they are all in bed together. Give me a break from this love fest. My taxes are too high and we get zero value that is not already afforded to anyone in the general vicinity whether they are residents or not.

When does advanced voting start!

I was relieved to hear it was only 8-9 million dollars. But still - stop for a moment and let that roll off your tounge...

9 M-I-L-L-I-O-N dollars.

To build a city hall for a city that provides....umm...let me think....shoot. They don't provide a damn thing. Gas you can buy anywhere. But the city sells gas to justify it's own existence, then builds elaborate buildings with the profits. Or those $@^#ing "raised crosswalks" their corner office idiot thought up.

How about some tax breaks instead ? Bring back the free use of dumpsters ? Community events ? But not a big building that only the city administration will enjoy. Think of us !!!

We need to clean house on these incumbents and bring in some new talent before this stupid project gets off the ground.

Tetley, how much of the 9M is coming from the SPLOST and what else could that SPLOST money be used for instead?

Yeah I've heard the SPLOST arguement before. Some, but I highly doubt all, would come from SPLOST. Then there's "mission creep" - now that there's a new building, we need new furniture, and new computers, and art work, and fancy mohogany paneling for the Mayors private office...etc etc.

Here's how I feel -
Just because there IS the SPLOST dollars does not mean you MUST waste them on SOMETHING. Case in point - that silly clock on the town green was what,$13k or more ? You know what I would do with $8M dollars ? Build a Teen Center. Then tear down the useless amphatheater and bring back the highly popular BMX track. A new gleaming city hall would never even enter my mind. It's just a total waste of taxpayer money.

Since the goal of the new Palace is to boost the hyper active egos of a few, here's my suggestion.

Construct a ruby encrusted, 12-foot bronze statue of his magnificence, Lord Pickle at the entrance to the park that he named after himself.

Since security might be an issue with so much bronze and precious stones, I further suggest that proximity detectors be installed and pick any would be thief and zap them with a 5-megawatt laser into Kingdom Come.

Both the new city hall and the statue will not serve any citizen but the statue would be a much more efficient waste of taxpayer money.

Either that or a much smaller, solid gold statue of a Gherkin to be auctioned off right after the park is renamed for someone who actually deserves that honor.
