Sugar Hill councilman jailed for fighting on street
He was upset over speeding in his neighborhood, says police report
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Tuesday, August 26, 2008
A Sugar Hill city councilman was jailed over the weekend for allegedly fighting with three other men on his neighborhood street.
James Nicholas “Nick” Thompson, 34, was released from jail on his birthday, Saturday morning, after Sugar Hill Mayor Gary Pirkle pooled money with Thompson’s parents and another city council member, Steve Edwards, to pay a $2,600 bond. Thompson was charged with simple battery and battery, both misdemeanors.
Two of the men involved in the confrontation — Daniel Koster, 21, of Buford, and Charles Reid, 21, of Sugar Hill — were charged with simple battery. A third man, Brandon Antoine Ballard, of Sugar Hill, was issued a disorderly conduct citation.
The three men claimed Thompson had threatened them with a bat and yelled at them “for no reason,” according to a police report.
Thompson told police the argument started after he yelled at the three young men to slow down because they were speeding through his Secret Cove subdivision around 7:30 p.m. Friday. At the time, Thompson was walking his two young children in a double stroller.
The three men responded by threatening Thompson and following him as he tried to walk away, the police report stated.
Thompson told police he dropped off his kids at home and then returned to confront the trio.
The dispute resulted in a scuffle, the police report said. Thompson said Tuesday he was “not proud to have been arrested.”
“It was a first time ever for me to be in trouble like that, but I’ve got three children and my two youngest ones were threatened directly and in clear danger,” Thompson said.
Pirkle said that Thompson did what any other parent would do, and pointed out “he tried to get out of the situation and couldn’t.”

Let me see if I have this straight.
From the article, "Thompson told police he dropped off his kids at home and then returned to confront the trio."
So Nicky got his kids and himself home safe, grabbed a bat and then returned to the streets or did I miss something?
The article also states that the Mayor says, "Thompson did what any other parent would do, and pointed out “he tried to get out of the situation and couldn’t.”
Excuse me but by Thompson's own words he was already out of the situation by virtue of having returned safely to his home. Maybe these two geniuses should compare notes next time.
Perhaps Nick "the stick" can answer this. Once the kids were safely in the house how were they, in Thompson's own words, "threatened directly and in clear danger”? Since this happened at 7:30 on a Friday night, could it be that Nicky had been belting down a jigger or two?
Mr. hot temper is lucky he didn't strike one of those kids, that would be aggravated assault. This is the type of judgment that the Mayor and Councilman Edwards think is appropriate for the city council. Yup, there is a judgment problem here to be sure.
It's also appropriate that a full grown "man" had to call Mommy, Daddy and the mayor for bail money. What a guy!!
Maybe they should put a batting range in the new city hall as well to keep this public menace out of further trouble and keep the citizens safe.

It does seem likely alcohol was involved. What else would inspire a public official to go running around like a caveman flailing his club ?
Toss up on the vote - Our resident cave man or our "dear leader" who arrogantly names a public park after himself ?
I guess I'll go with Pirkle since he also sprung Tarzan out of the monkey cage !

I think Bat Day at Pirkle Park would be apporpriate.

This dude Thompson is a first class Neanderthal who is best suited for the leading role in the next Gieco Insurance commercial.
"So easy a Sugar Hill City Councilman can do it".
Ah-ah ee-ee tookey-tookey!!!!!!!!

Tetley huh? As in tea bags? I think I know who you and river rat are. Where have you been?
#11 Apr 8, 2009
Thank you. It's payback time for Lord Pickle and we've been waiting quite a while. 2 out of 3 ain't bad for the get together but I have only some ideas on who the person is Jasper is.
Politically speaking, as in campaign wise, Pickle has deep fried himself with the park naming and the $24 mil Kremlin they want to build. Surely there are enough bright folks down in the flat lands who know what to do with this type election "gift".
As for Thompson and his version of 'thugs in the Secret Cove hood', if that caveman (I just love that, thank you Tetley!) and his master are smart, they won't even bother to seek reelection but then again, who ever said they were smart?
We should be able to send those rodents scurrying. Bats don't get votes, keyboards do. Pickle and Slugo now have something to worry about besides the new drapes for their soon to be former offices.

I was right. How you doing? You, your tea bag twin and Nighta could reshape Sugar Hill at will if the current population wants it. The three of you are legends. Do you get down there much? Great to know your still well. How is your beautiful bride? Great post, that was funny, you always did have a sense of humor.

Yeah, I get down to Sugar Hill quite often. We have a number of friends who still live there. They're not to happy about what's been going on within the hallowed halls of City Hall.
I no longer have a vested interest in Sugar Hill so I suggest that the current citizenry find themselves some good candidates and get their act together.
Pickle is no dummy, he's quite a shrewd politico and can not be taken lightly but he and the caveman can easily be defeated with a well run campaign. They have both handed any potential opponent huge gifts. Now let's see if anyone down there knows what to do with it.
My wife is doing extremely well and about to finish up some graduate level courses for work. I told her this, "having a wife for 25 years has worked out so well for me that next year I will travel to Utah and get a few more". I'm lucky I'm still alive after that:)

Since you claim to know me and since I provided my initials, please give me a call and we can organize this get together you have suggested. My location of Ellijay is real. I don't hide from anybody, especially Kim Jung Il and the SH Council. My name is in the book. Please call me. I can assure you that Lord Pickle and his pit bulls know who I am and I could care less. Pick up the phone. Reach out and touch an old ally. PLEASE!!

I suspect you probably do know us.
6 months to election day - never too early to let the fun begin. FYI I'm still around, just a little bit north of where I used to live.

Yes I do and thank you both. You two did well.

Thompson's out. 4 weeks until we can throw Sullivan and his crony Tanner out too. If we all get out and vote, King Pirkle will have plenty of time on his hands too.

Wow - lots of activity in the hamlet of Sugar Hill. Glad to hear that there is an effort to clean house. Sullivan is pretty full of himself and thinks he is smarter than everyone else. Tanner is some bloke that Pickle and Sullivan found to preserve their voting block. Pickle is busy getting things named after himself and lording over the residents. I think he was in NY celebrating Pickle Appreciation Day last week.
Good luck to all the viable candidates. Maybe Sugar Hill will become the kind of place people want to live and do business.

Darjeeling, greetings from our cousin, "Herbal Tea". You are on the ball. This is clearly a 3-on-3 race. Tanner is worthless and is a big-time backer, not of King Pirkle, but of his alter ego, Lord Pickle. But whatever, what's in a name. I happen to like devouring pickles, especially the Kosher kind. Hey Pickle, Shalom!
Sullivan is a complete phony so naturally, he nominated Tanner for P&Z and is a true Picklette as is Tanner. If Sullivan had any brains he would detach himself from the 3 trillion dollar city hall and apologize for naming the park after such an egotistic, diminutive clerk with a Napoleonic disorder but whoever said Sullivan had any brains.
Let's party on Nov 3, deal?
Regards from a fellow teabag.

Just went to a shindig and the topic (after the GA loss) was the need for a change in Sugar Hill....from excessive spending to just plain old dumb decisions and a little pocket lining.
General consensus was to clean house - this is probably good for about 50 votes against the incumbents. Add that to who they will tell and the new group is gaining major momentum.
The tide (and I don't mean Alabama) is turning.
This politics stuff is getting FUN!!!!

Electing Tanner would be like letting the fox guard the henhouse. Has he gone to the Thompson school of self offense?
#25 Oct 24, 2009
Speaking of Tanner, here's a good one considering that Tanner is claiming to be "financially responsible". This is a link to the Gwinnett County Courts about Mr. Tanner. Its from Curtis Northrup's website.
In GwinnettCourts.com it's...
tanner, shohn a.
unifund ccr vs tanner.
Tanner rang up a big credit card bill and never paid it off so Mastercard eventually turned Tanner's delinquent account over to a collection agency. Tanner promptly ignored all efforts of collection so the collection agency took him to court. Tanner never bothered to show up in court so a default judgment was entered against him.
Had Tanner bothered to make a simple phone call and attempted to make some arrangements to repay his bill, he could have avoided all the unpleasantness. Instead he acted like a coward, refused to communicate, refused to show any good faith and now he trashed his own credit because he couldn't control his own spending habits.
Is this really the guy you want dealing with $17 million of taxpayer money? I think not. Is Tanner "financially responsible? Hell no! He's just another phony.
Hey Tanner, PAY YOUR BILLS you stinking deadbeat!
