I'm thinking about moving with my kids to Oswego. I currently live in cook county and the crime rate has really worsened, not to mention the gang filled high schools that we have. So my question is how is Oswego? Is their anything I should know before I make a move?

Oswego is a great village, with great schools, but if you plan on purchasing a home, be prepared to pay very high property taxes.

You're on the low end. Most people in Oswego pay a lot more than that. Mine are $8500 per year.

I saw a 1500 sq foot condo online and it said propery taxes were 5700. Is that right? Seems crazy for a condo

My husband and I have lived in our home for two and a half years. We really love the area. We do pay quite a bit of taxes but it was comparable to nearby towns like Plainfield. I'd say it's worth it!

Yeah, that seems pretty high. My house is 2800 sq ft, and I pay $8500.

That is just crazy, out of control, insane. Another thing to consider - most of these new neighborhoods also are part of an association that requires dues on top of your property taxes. Dues / taxes. Same thing. This allows local governments to pass off issues and management. Now you have neighborhood associations, where the homeowners are stressed to the max working to cover the basics and then they have to deal with the HOA bullshit. The majority of these homeowners do not have the time to deal with this crap. The rules and regulations established by the village should be more than enough to govern all of the subdivisions as a whole.

There are HOA is some neighborhoods. However, that is something you are informed of BEFORE you buy. You do have a choice to live elsewhere.

Just dont overextend yourself with more house than you need or can afford and you will be fine.

Oswego along with Plainfield have been some of the most sought out places to live in the Chicagoland area for the schools, the homes and area amenities. Don't be fooled by those who complain all the the time. Many on here live to complain and will never be happy. If they want lower taxes then you'll need to move far west into no mans land.

Taxes are far less than Neighboring Naperville.

You are wrong. Our property tax rate is the same as Naperville, and even higher in some areas of Oswego. Please get your facts straight, before you start spouting off at the mouth.

It's the excellent mausoleum schools that were voted for by the majority, which created these high property tax rates, along with other items; ie the park district and the fire department.

So, yes, we have very nice schools, and we pay for that privilege. That's not a complaint, just a fact.

Actually it is you who is wrong. I own homes in Naperville and Oswego so I think I have a pretty good handle on which taxes are higher in each towns. Thanks.

I own properties in Oswego, Aurora, and Naperville, so I also have a pretty good handle on property taxes in these towns. I'm also very qualified to make this assessment, since I'm a real estate investor.

It actually depends on what area of these towns that the properties are located, as to what the property tax rate is.

If you had done your homework, then you would have discovered that on average, our tax rates are the same and ever higher in most areas of Oswego, than in Naperville.

Now, do you have any more miss-informed comments to make? Thanks.
