A horrible loss for a family. That is a very late return from training. Friday classes usually end fairly early. I hope the late travel wasn't caused by poorly scheduled training.

Seems very strange to be coming from a class at that time on the morning?????? I somehow don't think that a training class would let out at that time. I'm sure there's more to the story.

I think you can see comment #2 answered in comment #4.

The trouble with topix is that the moderators censor way too many comments.

Let people speak their mind.

Let the chips fall where they may.

The comments that are removed are removed because somebody complained. They reported the post as abuse. Why do you disagree? These comments were bad taste and did not benefit anybody. It's not cute, funny or intelligent to make this sort of comment. Especially when somebody is dead.

I don't disagree, but I don't know what the posts actually said, so how could I know if they were in bad taste?

Topix is just censoring comments. How would anyone else know what was said?

They would not. Kind of hard to respond to things you can't read.

Isn't it?

But that's the point... They do not can not read every comment people make. The only way a comment gets removed is if somebody complains. Some of the comments are still there if you read some of the replies. They still show in italics.

Get ready for more censorship. It the new America. You can kill someone and be free but talk about killing someone and you go to jail. It is all about our feelings.

You're half right. I'll be the first to agree that free speech is being taking away at an alarming rate. What they're calling "political correctness" is in reality censorship in disguise. It disgusts me that our society is raising limp wristed, whiny, wimps who can't stand up under opposition. So yeah you're half right.

But.... If you're referring to the Zimmerman/Martin case when you say "you can get away with killing somebody", I have news for you. This isn't anything new. Why is everybody getting so worked up about this one case???? Maybe because President Obama hand picked this case, and called it a "race killing" which it isn't. He knows it isn't. He's not stupid. He is using it to try to distract from the real problems. Nothing like the old white on black crime issue to distract people from a failed presidency. Killing somebody in self defense isn't illegal never has been. And the justice system selected a jury of peers to look at the evidence. And decide if it was indeed self defense which they did. You may or may not agree but either way that's the beauty of freedom. What you described there isn't "New America". You described freedom at it's best. "New America" wants to take away our right to defend ourselves they want to take the right to voice our opinion, they want to take away or freedom. And people keep voting for "New Americans". When are we going to wake up?

I can see why that phrase would concern you. Under FLA law that was not murder. Matter of fact, if the evidence in Mr Martins phone had been allowed Zimmerman profiled correctly. The problem was that Mr Zimmerman was not equipt physically or mentally to use anything but the gun. That is probably why he wasn't a cop.

No no no. I didn't "get concerned" about the phrase nor do I disagree with you that Zimmerman may have been a little of center. Maybe way off center and he may have provoked Martin. We can speculate about what would of could have should have happened. I disagree that there may well have been some "getting away with killing someone". Reread what I said. I simply meant that this example isn't a good example of what you called the New America. People have been getting away with killing for a long time. If I may I'd like to remind you of the OJ Simpson trial. Another high profile circus that resulted in a killer going free. Freedom isn't perfect but it's still better than the alternative.

The reason OJ went free was because a substandard lab and evidence chain could not account for all of the blood samples taken from OJ. Mix in the rogue " racist cop" Furman and you have motive with opportunity to plant evidence. This allowed for reasonable doubt and the not guilty. Don't feel bad , I have explained this to some FBI agents much to my own shock. Some folks missed the Warren court and rules of evidence in their Law Enforcement and Law School training. Anyway, back to the original point. I meant to highlight the country's focus on speech and not behavior... so I think we are in agreement.

OJ/Martin/Zimmerman/Obama are discussed in this particular article? Some really have nothing else to do or blame for their lot in life. I guess the 'New America' will take care of it. By-Bye to the 'Old America'(I wonder what it was called before that) Its nice to see history be written as we live, oh how this country has changed and will continue to be change. Look forward to it.

Yeah, America has changed. Sorry it's the same as always. Perspectives changed and the public remains disinterested until they get scared. We are just primates with cell phones...some more than others.

LOL. You know the irony of this kind of comment is that it applies to you as well. According your own opinion, you apparently "have nothing better to do or blame for your life." It was a rolling debate. Maybe you're too obtuse to follow the relevance but that don't make everyone else the problem. And it sounds like what you're saying is that you're ok with rights, like free speech, being taken away. These rights were bought and have been preserved by the blood of men with vision courage and determination. If you don't like free speech there are plenty of countries that don't afford their citizens this privilege pick one.

There is probably no point in speculation of fault. Maybe it was just pure accident. Civil wrongs are tried if warranted. It is up to victims that may include this officer and other parties involved. We all put ourselves at risk now and then. The way I view long life mostly is limiting risk. Sometimes it is just plain bad luck.
