Suffolk woman charged with cruelty to animals for leaving horses to starve in woods

Suffolk police are charging a woman for cruelty to animals. Investigators say Jennifer Harrell tied up five horses to a tree and left them to starve on Wilroy Road.

This goes beyond cruelty to animals, this is sick! I put my horses before myself, they are part of my family!

While this is definitely cruel ~ Do we know ALL the circumstances behind what she has done ? We probably need to get the facts first before crucifying her. And NO, I'm not saying what she did was right, but maybe it was beyond her control ~ I don't know this woman but I do know that sometimes we are forced to do things that we wish we didn't OR know better. Please hear her story and then make the punishment fit. I am an animal lover ~ have two dogs myself and if able would have horses, too. They have always been my fav since childhood. I hate what they're going thru but I do know what it's like to have to do something we have no control over and if that is the case, I just wish she had asked for help prior to resorting to this.

The law should apply to everyone equally. She should not be allowed to own any animals again and should have to pay for the care of the horses. Thereafter, she should have to serve community service to the commonwealth, see her parole officer once a month and go to a counselling to determine why she felt she had to do this crime in the first place.

Domesticated animals are at the mercy of us humans. She should have asked for help if she couldn't for whatever reason care for the horses. If she is sick then we should try to help her. Her neighbors should have talked to her about her status.

What is wrong with people...we have horses and yes, it costs a lot of money to keep them but when you take on that responsibility you take it on. Simply give them away if you can't care for them. I have heard this person has been in trouble before for the same type thing. I don't know how someone lives with themselves for doing something like this, no conscience obviously, which is the root problem.

how can you say starving animals to death my be beyond her control. thats is just rediculous.if she couldnt take care of them she should have given them away.there is absolutely no excuse for what she did.none!!!!!!

race will be thrown into everything,that way you will get off easier. race has nothing to do with this situation. vick and the horse lady should both be punished to the max.

You really need help if you will take animals before a human being. There are many groups that will offer you counceling free of charge so "your kind" will not be allowed to roam freely with the rest of the world.
