wonderful comes along I am the first to be totally amazed. That is exactly what occurred on Friday Jan 2nd...out here in the wilds of Sudden Valley.
It has now been three weeks without garbage pickup for us, due to the abysmal conditions of our roads in this gated private community. Three weeks with garbage accumulating in your garage is noticeably too long....if you catch my drift. The big green plastic rolling container long ago was stuffed and compressed to capacity, in addition two 55 gallon heavy wall black plastic bags are filled and taped shut, all in expectation of Friday and the big blue truck. I had my doubts early on in the morning because it was snowing AGAIN, and almost all providers of any sort of service will not venture into this community when it snows repeatedly. A consequence of a great deal of hillside homes with ridiculous access streets built for Rocky Mountain Goats!, which are the rule rather than the exception. My home is on a nice fairly level part of Lake Louise Drive but the dreaded Granview Lane hill is the only way in....and it has already claimed several vehicles and two tow trucks in the last couple of weeks. So when I called SSC Waste Management Friday morning it came as no surprise when I was informed that there possibly would be no pickup AGAIN this Friday. Then the representative offered that if I could BRING my garbage over to our mini-mall, there would be a large truck available to accept same.
I don't and won't haul garbage in my Jeep Cherokee! I'm the guy who habitually cleans the feet of my dogs before they get to ride in the front seat. So I figured it would be another week of garbage accumulating before there would be another "garbage opportunity". Later that same day I was down in the workshop puttering around, dogs were running circles through the garage and outside a commotion arose. I gathered dogs and confined them to the hallway, and then raised the garage door .....here was a man and woman with a large green van out in front ........ PICKING UP MY GARBAGE FROM THE GREEN CONTAINER AND STUFFING IT IN THEIR VAN! Then they gathered up the two supplemental black bags also. I had to say something, and found out from the husband that they were doing this throughout the neighborhood .....ferrying loads over to the garbage truck in the mini-mall. I was astounded ....I was appreciative and thanked them repeatedly. I then asked if they wanted some help.....they both said No, and continued on with purpose.
I asked my neighbor Quetin Gates across the road if he knew the couple and he was acquainted with them, so it wasn't some nefarious scam to cull out vital information from my garbage. Again ....... how often has something this selfless happened for you? It made me stop and consider that there are still some genuinely good people in this up side down world. In their anonymity they none the less rise to the top of my "List of Honorable Persons".
