Where do I get an application? Oh, that's right, I don't meet the qualifications. I can't afford to commute for minimum wage anyways.

With the pool of talent around Greenville, they can start a Made in the USA brand of Refrigerators that would be sought worldwide. Employee owned, this company would not achieve large profit margins but margins none the less. They can be competitive.
Quite honestly there is no way you can a PURELY 100% true American refrigerator. Parts to make the refrigerators have been outsourced so parts would have to be ordered from other countries. I worked for Electrolux and what sucked was almost all of our parts were either from Mexico or China, because they were much cheaper to buy in order for them to have a product to sell for anything. Making anything 100% American is a lot harder than one might think!

"The plan is to renovate the facility for light industrial, manufacturing, warehousing and commercial use. The project is expected to bring in 600 jobs."

That doesn't mean 600 jobs are coming to the area, it means that there is a potential for 600 more jobs. First you have to fill the building(s). Just like this state to count their chickens before they hatch.

I kind of agree with Drew on this. In Kalamazoo we keep hearing about all these 100's of jobs coming to downtown for the past 2 years. Those who work downtown have seen NO change. I really think alot of this is propaganda. It is more of a HOPE then an actual reality.

We can build compressors and evaporators here. Our margins may not be as large but there will be profit.

The jobs were going to come anyway, it's not just because of Obama. But I'm sure no one could argue differently with you right? Probably because you have a closed mind when it comes to politics and the economy. Open your mind, learn about economics, and you will see a bigger picture.

You might actually have some credence to your insults if you actually learn how to spell. Why don't you start with OBAMA.

As for rooting against Obama, I'm waiting to see what he actually DOES, not what he SAYS he will do. THAT will make the difference. It's all in the actions, NOT the words.

As for rooting against Granholm, I've done that since the beginning. But since all the 'smart' people have voted for her AGAIN, I guess they really do want to turn Michigan into a wasteland.

The only thing Jenny has done is try to replace the jobs we lost with her little European vacations. And funny, most of the jobs she's 'gained' has been on the EAST side of the state. Out of the proposed 4,000 jobs only 800 are projected to be on the west side?

Jenny has tried to tax the Michigan Economy back to moving. Obviously that's worked well, so let's try it again!

We have businesses pulling up shop and leaving left and right. We have one of the highest foreclosure rates in the Nations. We are a 1/2 % away from double digit unemployment, and those numbers are only the ones that are calling to MARVIN and being tracked!

And let's not forget the high salaries, expense accounts, and lifetime benefits to we pay out to Lansing.

Go Jenny! We are REALLY blown away!

This article is about nothing more than hype. They rave about 800 jobs coming to W> Michigan, yet more than 600 of these "jobs" are numbers only with no real grounding. While the developer may have plans to work with this property, it in inself does not create job #1. We have hundreds of buildings with millions of square footage of all grades of industrial and commercial space that is in ready to work condition with no need for renovation sitting empty in Holland, Muskegon, and Grand Rapids and yet although the developers and property management companies have been trying to fill these building with tennants for the last several years, the sheer fact that a building is present does not make a job. Not until an entrepreneur steps forward with a working business plan or an existing business like the ironworks in Rothbury that was mentioned steps forward with an expansion is there true reason to count viable added jobs. While this story does not detail the other 3200 "jobs" that the state (Granholm) wanted to tout as being "created" in other parts of the state, most of these were also based on rehab work to a building in a Brownfield clean-up zone to make it suitable or a vacant building being updated for potential business without any expresed committment or intent by a business to occupy said properties. Sorry, this was almost exclusively about real estate development, not job creation. If vacant buildings with the latest in technology and versatility for various applications of industry, not to mention great locations for exposure mean that business will certainly follow and occupy these buildings, then we in West Michigan should have an overabundance of jobs to choose from with all the available space we have just in this area.
Part of the reason that businesses are building where they do and not moving into vacant real estate is that they typically get a bigger tax abatement and larger depreciation write offs for building. As a owner of a small shop, it would be better tax-wise to build in Norton Shores where I could get tax breaks than to buy a larger building in the city where I am, should I ever need to do so. Cities tend to take businesses for granted once they are located in their boundaries and tax payers tend to frown on tax breaks to keep us there.

This state, as you put it, is also one of the enterprises, in the form of government, that is bellying up to the trough in D.C. while the getting is good to receive a handout to cover a 400 million dollar budget deficit. What I want to know is what happened to the requirement in the Michigan constitution that our state run a balanced budget. I don't believe the federal government having a 400 million dollar marker of ours is complying with our state's constitutional requirement. But to the point of the story. Certainly any jobs in Michigan are a good thing. But why do I picture the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dike?
