Are you really willing to kill someone for a dvd player?
If the robber is not willing to die for the dvd player, he shouldn't break into the house.

But there's a difference between beating the snot out of someone with a bat, and blowing his brains out with a gun. In one situation, he learns a painful lesson, in the other situation, he dies. Are you really willing to kill someone for a dvd player?
You seriously don't think you can kill someone with a baseball bat?

I didn't say you COULDN'T kill someone with a bat, but you certainly have more of a choice of whether to kill him or just give him something to think about :)

My house and my family's safety is my obligation. Break into my house, my right to defend with my gun. Do you want my TV or would you like to keep breathing?

You might as well kill them because with our system of laws they would probably come back and sue you.

Why the violence? What has happened to us? Why is our first reaction to so many things “Well, just shoot them”? I can’t count the number of times in this forum that I’ve heard someone suggest that we execute a person or shoot someone! Somebody offends you? Get the gun. Somebody keys your car? Get the gun. Somebody steps on your petunias? Get the gun. Besides extreme physical threat/self-defense, is there ever a good reason to kill someone? No possession, religion, or argument is ever worth killing for. Is someone stealing your TV? Let ‘em have it! No human life is worth less than a TV or necklace or wad of cash! I think it was Tom Robbins who said,“There are many things worth living for, a few things worth dying for, and nothing worth killing for.”
Guess Tom Robbins isn't very bright.

Guess we shouldn't have fought in WW1 or WW2? How about the Revolutionary War?

The others covered it pretty well, don't break into my house and there won't be any violence. I don't break into other peoples' homes. Don't take my stuff and there won't be any violence.

It's really quite simple. Obey the laws and nobody will need a shot to the head or a beating with a bat.
