Whats the difference if its illegal in Mi or not! They still build casinos. If there approved they build them!! If you live in Lagrange how are you going to be affected? I'd say the only ones to be affected would be the surrounding area in MI! I live 20 min from Sturgis I could care less. If it will bring jobs for people in the surrounding area I say go for it. Battle Creek casino needed 1,500 employees they got 15,000 apps.
Look around you, you have drugs no matter where you go!! You have bars no matter where you go. If that's how people want to use their hard earned money so be it. It's not taking money out of my pocket or yours! It isn't any different if you go play bingo or grab a lotto ticket out of your local gas station.
How many applied for a job at the brothel? LOL!!

So I guess it didn't solve their unemployment problems, then.

Of course it didn't but it gives 1,500 families food on their tables and a chance closer to send their children to college. Anything helps! But you probably have a job so you could care less about the families in Mi that don't!!!! Or how about the families in IN that don't. Elkhart has been all over the news lately. Them families would love for something ANYTHING to be built in their area for more jobs.

1,500 less people on public assistance and food stamps; I think that qualifies as solving some issues. Actually, the count would be even higher when you count spouses and children of the hired employees.

"You ask ..."If you live in Lagrange how are you going to be affected?" and then state "I'd say the only ones to be affected would be the surrounding area"

I reply, Do you have a map? LaGrange Co. is the nexy door neighbor to Sturgis, Michigan. This casino also plans on uses resources from our county.

You also state, "If that's how people want to use their hard earned money so be it."

That is the equivalent of a grown adult not wanting to deal with a child and telling them to "Go and ask their mother."

Gambling turns into an addiction and ruins the lives of others, including the gambler who loses judgement and behaves like a child.

What I meant was the fact that taxes and such will be MICHIGAN!!!! I have a map thank you I know where Lagrange is. That's why I said surrounding areas in MICHIGAN!!!!!!!!!!

Alcohol is an addiction too, last time I knew they still sell it the store. Cigarettes too still sold in the store!!! Alcohol also ruins families not much your gonna do about it.

Look I don't tell you where to spend your money so what gives you the right to tell someone how to spend theirs?

Next time you go to grab another doughnut I hope someone reminds you how unhealthy it is for you!!

There's bars all around you they don't close them up just because someone is an alcoholic.

As far as resources from your county GOOD maybe people from your county can get a job feed their family. I'm glad its using from your county better than using resources from out of the country!!

Over the last 30 years, I have watched Sturgis degenerate into a cess pool. In the 70s, Sturgis was know as a blue collar, middle class factory town with great schools. We grew up in a good enviorment.

Today, what do you have?! The downtown area is rundown, the schools are so-so, industry has disappeared and the city celebrates not being able to speak english.

So instead of trying to rebuild a city the citizens could be proud of, the city endorses another casino! Let's get one thing straight, casinos do not create jobs! All they do is shuffle money from poor people to rich people. They do not create products, they do not provide an improvement in living conditions and they do not need to be in Sturgis.

Sturgis used to be the jewel of St. Joseph county, the citizens should strive for that not a course that will turn Sturgis into another Burr Oak or Bronson.

Thank you for your attention.

A casino will bring in jobs, sure. But I am not looking at the bright side. Gambling could bring a rise in prostitution and drugs. Sturgis has been a boring, clean, family-friendly town for years. We hardly even have any bars. I don't think that we will improve our quality of life here by bringing in cheap, tacky casinos.
These people promise a few million to Sturgis in revenues: 4% of their profit. Good grief, just think how much they will be taking from the area! I realize Sturgis needs jobs, but I would rather give these particular ones to some other town.
First of all sturgis is not all that clean you just need to get out of your shell and look around. As far as drugs are concerned do you read the local news paper? the main problem in our comunity is that there isn't any work so everyone is making meth in thier cars, homes, hotels, and any run down building that is availible. we need jobs and this casino would supply them. second if you can't control your gambling than don't go.
