Raising the Minimum Wage?

Ostupid mentioned raising the Federal minimum wage to $9 an hour. My question is, why not raise it to $20? Or $50?

Let's be clear about this. The Federal minimum wage is NOT aimed at making some pimple faced kid with 20 pounds of piercings working at Burger King's life any easier. I believe most of them are way overpaid as it is.

The Federal minimum wage is for the unions. Union contracts are tied to the minimum wage. The starting pay would read something like "186% of the Federal minimum wage." So when Ostupid wants that wage increased, it's the typical union payback.

The states have their own minimum wages. And that's how it should be. If Pa wants to have a $12 minimum wage, so be it. If Oregon wants a $5 minimum wage, again so be it.

But why not raise it to $100 an hour? The taxes collected on that money would reduce the national debt in one year! And we all know the big, EVIL corporations like Slush Inc would gladly pay their employees that kind of money!

It is not to be assumed that somebody working full time at minimum wage should be able to raise a family on it. Getting a good education or learning a trade is the answer to that probem. Where is the incentive to try to improve oneself?

Slush, I completely agree. The minimum wage was never intended to be enough to live on. But today's Liberals say its not fair that some make more than others.

But it's all a sham anyway. Each state has it's own minimum wage.
Pennsylvania's is $7.25 an hour.
New York's is $7.25 an hour
New Jersey's is $7.25 an hour
Vermont's is $8.60

But another problem creeps up. Let's say the rate goes to $9 overnight. What about the people already making $9? Are they gonna be happy making "minimum wage"? Not on your life! So they get a $1.75 an hour raise. Then what about the ones already making $10.75? Where does it stop? I'll tell you. Bankruptcy court.

This is govt triggered inflation, min wage goes up well so does everything else straight across the board from apples to zebras. It's good for the government because it raises tax revenue across the board as every body raises their prices and costs increase. Every one who thinks this is a good idea needs to put in an institution and taught some basic economics, forcefully, as in beat into them till they understand it. Our hourly people make way above min wage but if this happens and Pa follows suit we will give a corresponding raise to stay ahead.
I have read several places that the main reason for this is a obama union payback, increasing the federal min wage increases the paychecks of union workers whose rates are tied to the fed min wage plus a percentage but make much more. This way they can give union workers a raise without having to renegotiate their contracts.
