On November 19, 1945, only 7 months into his presidency, Harry S. Truman sent a Presidential message to the United States Congress proposing a new national health care program. In his message, Truman argued that the federal government should play a role in health care, saying "The health of American children, like their education, should be recognized as a definite public responsibility." One of the chief aims of President Truman's plan was to insure that all communities, regardless of their size or income level, had access to doctors and hospitals. President Truman emphasized the urgent need for such measures, asserting that "About 1,200 counties, 40 percent of the total in the country, with some 15,000,000 people, have either no local hospital, or none that meets even the minimum standards of national professional associations. Although the U.S. has been plagued by debt and depression cycles since its earliest days, Reagan started our most current financial problems.

Things are getting a lot better under Obama. If we can cut our military budget in half, reform welfare, and pass a public option, we might be able to save ourselves.

Let's discuss the Civil Rights Act.

In 1957 Dwight Eisenhower wrote a Civil Rights Act and presented it to Congress. The Senate Majority Leader told Ike his bill would be dead on arrival unless changes were made. Ike refused, so the bill died.

The Majority leader? Lyndon Baines Johnson.

In 1964 the EXACT SAME BILL Eisenhower wrote was championed by LBJ. A majority of Democrats voted against it. Among them J. William Fulbright, Bill Clinton's mentor, and Albert Gore Sr. Barry Goldwater, who was running for President also voted against it.

A majority of Republicans voted in favor of the bill and without the Republicans, the bill would have been defeated.

yeah right, sure. You're such a kidder! If you're an American that ends up on Obama's kill list, you don't have to worry about healthcare.

Of course, knowing you, you'll probably argue that's Obama keeping an eye on healthcare costs and being fiscally responsible lol.... or rather you'll stumble across something to that effect then cut and paste it here.

Oh Larry... like grub worms on a dead carcass, I can always count on you. So who passed the Civil Rights Bill? Right. That's all that matters. Not all your pre-debate BS.

After the pro-slavery Confederates murdered Lincoln, his VP dropped the ball. They should have cut Sherman loose to finish the job then we wouldn't be listening to all these nutcases from SC, AL, MS, GA and such.

Andrew Johnson was a DEMOCRAT, brought onto the ticket to try to heal the rift the country was experiencing. He was an unmitigated disaster as President.

He was impeached, and remained in office by only one vote in the Senate.

The south was solidly Democrat only until recently. During the civil rights debate and vote, the south voted solidly against civil rights. Every Governor who stood in the doorways of schools and colleges denying blacks entrance was a Democrat. It took Eisenhower to send Federal troops to allow blacks to get an education.
