Yes Lotta, I have changed my tune a little. These past few years have shown me that not everyone collecting benefits are cheats or leeches. But I stand by condemning those who are. And the system that allows it. If someone is in a temporary spot of trouble, sure, help them, why not? Welfare as a way of life? No. Since we are spending so much on assistance now, why not give incentives to those who are working (poor) or studying to better themselves and therefore all of us by getting off assistance completely.

Well DUH! Wasn't that the problem that was alluded to in the last election? For the sake of argument let's call one group "takers". The other "givers". Contrary to everything you and others have said about "tough love", the takers have reached a tipping point. They will vote as a block, no matter what they think of fellow takers benefits be they fair or not. The Republicans committed political suicide by even mentioning the term, the Democrats with only a wink and a nod guaranteed the status quo.
