I'm surprised they use machete at all, it is after all a racist term... I note they make no mention of the blade length in the article but if he was chasing and they were running the blade was probably substantial :-)))

It just sounds as stupid as calling an axe an axe-type hatchet.

Authorities said the man was coming at police with a silver machete when he was shot in the torso, arms and face, and he remained aggressive in the minutes after officers fired more than a dozen bullets.

He died a little more than two hours later at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. Authorities did not say how many times he was hit.

Two police officers also were taken to the hospital because they had touched the victim's blood. Both later were released.

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said investigators Thursday night still had no reliable information on the man's name. The county coroner's office identified him only as John Doe and scheduled an autopsy for Friday morning.

Martin said the police officers' use of lethal force seemed justified, but four officers were placed on administrative leave until the investigation is complete. Two of the officers fired handguns and two others fired stun guns in the confrontation, he said.

Martin said the officers' names would not be disclosed during the investigation.

The gunfire happened after police shot the man with a stun gun, which seemed to have no effect, Martin said, noting that the man used his machete to cut the stun-gun wires from his body
