Great letter...Dennis Thompson. Could not have said it better. The vast majority of our population are far removed from the very issues that most affect them.

I fail to see how providing college scholarships is a city function. What am I missing?

City Hall could use a flushing, as well. Excellent letter, Mr. Iles.

Again, there are plenty of existing college scholarships and grants that, every year, go wanting.

you take my tax money and create public education - every child in the city qualifies - that is fine with me. but when you take my tax money (from this public asset) which children get scholarships? not all? then I am very very opposed.

Yes indeed. Not to mention the unconstitutionality of property taxes for public schools. With Double-Dealin' Don, taxpayer now becomes like a defendant facing double jeopardy.

The people who live in Akron are being taken advantage of. I believe this city could use more jobs, etc. I also agree, there are enough scholarships and grants for anyone who truely wants to go and finished college.

My daughter graduated in the top 10 of her high school 2 years ago. We searched exhaustively for scholarships.

She was an honor student all four years of high school and made the who's who of American students, twice.

The scholarships that did pertain to her, wasn't even acknowledged that she applied. Just an empty mailbox and outrages student loans.

This gesture by Mayor Plussize is udderly ridiculous, though. If he wants to see worthy students go to college he needs to start a fundraiser going; starting with city employee dept. heads, then have his venues put aside a percentage of its income to the fund.

Example: 4th of July BBQ and firstnight new year's eve, and how about taking a percentage of his german buddies, who set up at canal place during ice skating season.

Let's see some real brainSTORMING, and leave the SEWERS the way they are.

Look, all of you, it's never going to pass. He'll never get that on. So how about thinking out of the box, errrr out of Akron and start talking about this inane war, health insurance, and a new energy policy. You flatter your phony mayor by even reacting to something that he knew was politically dead even before he floated it.........
oh wow - so gald you stopped by - we never thought of those things before as we are just dumb acorns - all we think of is this - how shall we ever repay you oh papal one?

Mayor Don Plusquellic is too busy with air fares to Israel starting a business he can't afford to do business with but will put us all out on the streets...
