You must have more info on this Sedona fire. News coverage is inadequate in this story.

My husband and I live across 89A from Wilson's Mt. and spent the night watching the orange glow, and yellow flames outline the horizen. It was as if we were seeing the entrance to hell just outside our door. I give much thanks and credit to those brave souls who have dedicated their lives to battling this beast, in order that lives and homes can be spared.
How sad that one of the most beautiful places on earth has to suffer at the hands of someone so careless. Right now, the winds are starting to pick up, and I see lines of smoke streaming from smaller fires on the south side of the mountain. Yes, coverage on this is not what it should be. We had no warning from the TV, or radio, until later on in the evening. By then, anyone who was in Sedona already knew about it, and was taking necessary precautions in case they had to leave. Thank Goodness, they thought about the pets this time, and had a shelter for those who had to evacuate with their families. |

I pray that all is safe there. My husband and I spent a week in AZ in April. We went to Sedona twice (we fell in love). One lady we talked to in one of the shops said that she was fearful of fire season due to a dry winter. I think there does need to be more national coverage....
Praying for you all... Lori St. Albans WV |

If you think this is bad, wait a few more years with all the growth that is now more fuel for a much bigger fire, the best thing can happen is for it to burn like it use to.
Our fed gov/ us forest service and the ones that shut down logging, are to blame, logging use to get alot of thinning and cleaning along the forest floor, not now. Every year it is going to get worse, The ranchers use to burn alot of the over growth to get better feed/grass not now. Expect alot more fires and alot bigger out of control fires. Fires now dont just clean the forest floor, there is so much heat from the extra fuel wood that it kills alot of the seeds that would and need fire to re germinate. Like usual, our gov along with a few other anti groups have caused this. You have a forest and dont take care of it, clean/burn and maintain it will get dangerous and stay that way until a fire cleans it. 50yrs ago they use to burn off sections of land at a time, not now. You dont see a gardner letting the weeds take over and expect to get a good crop. You cant let the forest just keep growing and no cleaning, our National forests need a good cleaning if they are not going to log it anymore. Just like the rodeo/chedisky fire a few years back by Showlow AZ. it got out of hand and burnt alot of houses. expect the same to happen where there is alot of growth to burn. |
