Glad they caught 2 of these fools. Hope they throw the book at them. Someone could have been killed! Hope they catch the third one.

"A motorist traveling past the jewelry store spotted three people race out of the jewelry store in ski masks and called police from his cell phone ..."

Ski masks in August!
Is that the best they could come up with?

Joe, they tried to rob a jewelry store in broad daylight. It's not like they claimed membership in Mensa.

Once again, thanks to the Stratford cops. Nice work.

To give these devils their due, they did manage to get "thousands of dollars' worth of jewelry," but ski masks in August? So much for a low-key get-away.

It reminds me of a car thief who went out "shopping" in my neighborhood after a snowfall; Officer Joy didn't even need his dog to track him down!

If I owned a jewelry store, I'd be armed and extremely dangerous. What's this, about the 3rd or 4th one lately? These stores are easy pickings for robbers, so the owners need to protect themselves and their salesmen. Desperate times call for desperate measures, get a permit and start packing a gun. Shoot first and ask questions later before they end up dead like those unfortunate Donnellys that were killed in Fairfield.

Wow where are the cops in all this crime spree hitting Stratford? It seems some elements of the PD dept are too busy being in bed with the republicans. The PD seemingly forgot to patrol the crime. Must be a coindence?

Hey Dom the police serve the people not a political party! The thieves don't care who's in office, robbers do what robbers do steal from the folks that work.

If you are serious then your statement is one of the most moronic posts ever. They caught the guys and you are still complaining. As for not patroling, how are 8-12 police officers per shift supposed to cover 20 something square miles of town at all times and be everywhere? I hope you are being sarcastic because if you are not then you are a azzclown.

While protecting a business like this is important, pulling out a gun when these thugs already had brandished theirs could have led to disastrous consequences for the customers in the store. Having the owner or a salesperson pull out a weapon and attempt to shoot one of the robbers could very easily have led to everyone in the store being killed.

Now perhaps having an armed guard in the store would be a better option. It might act as a deterrent to have a public presence so that the robbers think twice about even entering the store. Once inside and brandishing a weapon, it would be very difficult for someone to pull out a weapon without possibly getting injured or killed themselves. But having a guard whose primary responsibility is to keep watch for these types of situations might be a better option.

As for the good samaritan and the police, great job! That was very brave of the good samaritan, and an excellent job by police to catch two of the three. Let's hope the third one is in custody very soon.
Just my opinion

Congrats to the good samaritan who called in the crime. Congrats to the police who caught 2 of the 3 idiots.
The third one should be caught soon enough.
And...examples should be made of them all.
For those of you who like sharia and those who support them...do you know what the penalty is for theft?

YES, clearly community policing would have prevented this robbery and similar recent crimes. If the cops played soccer or basketball with these kids 3 years ago for 15 minutes it would have solved all their family, social and locally environmental problems and therefore prevented them from resulting to a violent crime. F-n dumb lazy cops caused this crime and many others. When will we learn cops are paid to hold hands and play parent, not enforce laws and arrest people?
