Dear Resident:

Recently, there has been news coverage regarding the status of public safety equipment that has been purchased for our police and fire departments.

My Administration understands and appreciates the importance of purchasing and maintaining quality police, fire and EMS equipment for the protection of our community. Since taking office, I have purchased the requested equipment and advocated for the purchase of necessary police, fire and EMS apparatus. I believe that our commitment to ongoing equipment purchases is particularly important in our post 9/11 world where essential public safety equipment, apparatus and personnel must remain at the ready to be mobilized at a moment's notice.

Working with Police Chief John Buturla, Fire Chief James Cavanaugh and EMS Director Donna Best, the Town has hired new personnel, instituted new policy initiatives to allow public safety employees to be properly trained and made necessary infrastructure repairs to all Town facilities that house our vital first responders in addition to much needed equipment acquisitions.

As part of my on-going commitment to transparency, please click here to read a list of police and fire department enhancements that have been made:

In addition, please click here to read Chief Cavanaugh's response to a recent letter to the Editor in the Connecticut Post citing concerns about emergency equipment at the Stratford Fire Department.

As Mayor, I will continue to advocate and purchase police, fire and EMS equipment for our valued public safety professionals and advocate for their needs. Under my leadership, I am pleased to report to our residents, I have taken the necessary steps to ensure that our Town is safe and that essential life saving services for our citizens are available whenever needed.

Sincerely,

Mayor Jim Miron

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Aquarius

The more you want to control someone, or someone wants to control you, the more difficult life will be today. It's a Full Moon and a lunar eclipse, so the last thing you should do now is to act as though you own this person, or tell them what to do, because it will be an instant recipe for rebellion and trouble. Mars is retro in your house of significant others and open enemies after all. If you don't want to spoil the evening's celebrations you'll have to make compromises, and hope that this other person will do the same. Don't let the fuss stop you having a very happy New Year's Eve.
