Pure chaos on the highways of Connecticut. Why? There is no regular patrol and no enforcement of driving laws. The net time you travel to Rhode Island or Massachusetts you will immediately see State Troopers at the borders. Not in Connecticut though. Travel down south. On one road trip, you will see more State Troopers on I 95 from Delaware to South Carolina than you will see in Connecticut on I 95 in one full year. Our drivers are being slaughtered on our highways whileour State Troopers are doing other things.

Envoy5, I couldn’t agree with you more. People drive like crazy people, partially because they know they won’t be pulled over. Add on to that list that the summer traffic is back ala snowbirds and vacationers.

John, I would only agree to two tolls being put in; i95 exit 92 and i395 exit 79A. Though town traffic would unbearable, everyone knows the back roads and would take them to skip the tolls. Keep the traffic on the highway.

Any accident on the MW Bridge is devastating because traffic is routed though Devon, which can’t handle the ‘alternative route’ volume.

When are the state police going to start policing the highways? The trucks are generally a menace. I think that there must be payoffs going on since they don't seem to care about trucks with the most blatant of violations.

MarylanDave: You are an idiot!....You are a menace on a keyboard! The accident and fuel spill was caused by the Toyota Camry.....a 4-wheeled passenger car. My first guess as to who caused the accident would have been a Volvo or Subaru driver with Obama 08' and Ned Lamont bumper stickers.

.....just what we need, more police action and bigger government to make us safe on the highways. We are nothing but a banana republic so get used to the third -world driving attitude you see on our nations highways.

Gee, the people at fault weren't senior citizens which proves there are young ones who are stupid jerks on the road. Most don't even have a license probably because they're too stupid and ignorant to pass the test.

Yes, the senior citizens bashers must feel pretty stupid right now. How does it feel to have people under 45 causing such havoc? All they do is speed and run into innocent people. Their stupidity is at an all time high.

How do you get a ticket when you dont have a license???? Shouldnt that man have been arrested. What a load of garbage. Why isnt driving without a license and more than likey without insurance a serious crime?

Does anybody want to hear my opinion on this? I'm the self proclaimed expert on all matters pertaining to the police. I know I'm a legend in my own mind but it keeps me happy whether I'm on my meds or not.

We pay massive fuel taxes and the state has yet to find a way to deal with the massive traffic congestion on the highways.

4 trillion and we can not even put our heavy freight on the railroad like modern nations around the world do.

I suppose it would save too much fuel, release too little CO2, and make the roadways safer and operate twice as long with less maintenance.

The big banks need that money to endow their big wheels with enough cash to retire in Europe or someplace progressive.

There's one who usually hangs out around Exit 33 going Southbound.

I drive past him daily too.

Cars drive way to fast, cut others off, use no blinkers, maneuver in and out of lanes....reckless drivers. I have a long commute every day to work and have seen it all, nothing surprises me anymore. I never see any state troopers on the Merritt, once in the while they may be on 95. But we cannot blame the troopers, drivers should not have to be "babysat". Obey the speed limits and stop driving as if its a speedway.

And why was the driver only issued a ticket without a license? Shouldnt they have been arrested? There are just no consequences anymore for breaking the law.

It's not the construction - was there any mention of constructing causing the accident? People are just reckless when they get behind the wheel.

If you know the area (which obviously you don't) you would know there was a fatal accident only a week ago at the same site due to ongoing construction which they referenced in the article.

The construction workers do not give ample warning of the on coming road work, which makes the tail gaters and speeders have to stop abruptly and then they crash.

Clearly you don't drive that strip of I-95 DAILY which I do. So please, unless you know the construction patterns in the area and the times they are working on the road, keep your comments to yourself.

Do you even realize what you just said.....because the tail gaters and speeders are not given enough warning they have to abruptly stop....what is wrong with that scenerio?? I don;t speed or tailgate and guess what I never have a problem with sssslllloooowwwly reducing my speed as not to cause an accident. It's reckless driving not construction causing the problems. Since I have lived in this area for over 20 years....I think I know the area pretty well.
