On a serious note -- Thank you Quincy township to the efforts you have made over the last few years on Old Forge Rd. The number of accidents has decreased substantially.

However, may I note to the rest of the townships who are resorting to tar and chip instead of asphalt -- Yes, the price may be substantially lower BUT the only reason that there had been so many accidents on Old Forge Rd. was because of the tar and chip. Eventually, someone is going to sue the townships responsible for tar and chip on the roadways, and then asphalt sure will look a whole lot cheaper than a lawsuit.

Due to tar and chip on Old Forge, the road became so slippery that even police investigating the accidents commented that the road was too slippery (when wet) to even walk on. Other townships need to take note and stop looking at tar and chip as the cheap alternative because it could cost someone their life. And please, don't tell me that it isn't the road surface but rather the speed of the drivers. Wrong -- I slid at 30 mph going uphill -- my tires were spinning like I was on ice except it was a rainy day in the middle of summer.

Now, if someone could just do something about the curve on Old Forge at Rattlesnake Run ...

Do what you gotta do. If tar and chip is 1/10 the cost of overlay then why do overlay?
I remember back in the day when I was a little poor child who got a job with Penndot through some program that reserved jobs for poor kids we did tar and chip all the time. That was back in the 80s. CETA, seta? I forget... We qualified to work at the school cleaning gum off the bottom of desks at our local high school or one year when I got my drivers license I worked for penndot one summer.
Yep you haters, I took advantage of a government program, one that reserved jobs for poor folks. I grew up poor, but we still took advantage of the opportunity to work.
Can't say that for today's underclass.

Here's an idea for raising some funds. Start taxing or charging a fee for all the "wide loads" that are coming thru the area. Route 11 is taking a beating, and we yokels are tired of being held up by these loads. It's only going to get worse when the Turnpike raises their tolls.

Since tar and chip is so easy, cut back to one half crew when doing these jobs.

If penn dot crews didn't stand around and talk so much, they would get more things done. I say cut there wages. That what you get when you belonge to a union.

Apparently you do not know anything about wide loads; there is a fee to get the permits to run these loads and sometimes it can be very costly. I know I apply for them almost every day. Right now route 11 is being used because you can not use I-81 due to the construction, and forget about the turnpike to many restrictions.Just thought you'd like to know.

I run the Old Forge twice a day and I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. Slowly (very slowly), but surely, the whole road is getting re-blacktopped, starting at the top.

As bikers, we've slid more than once, and visiting bikers who are not familiar with the road complain often about the tar/chip situation. As dangerous as it is for cars, it's even more so for motorcycles.

As for the curve at Rattlesnake...good luck with that!

Oh no , say it ain't so!
Not after the Obama dog and pony show said things were just great!

Obama is heading to NJ for a meeting with small business leaders__

WOW --- 19 months after taking office he just now willing to talk to small business leaders?

Small business?-- the ones that create most of the jobs -- who would have thought it would take 19 months!

In a stop in Edison, New Jersey, Obama plans to meet with a group of small-business owners about his initiative to free up credit and provide tax incentives to spur hiring

The sluggish economic recovery, lagging job growth and a federal deficit projected to hit a record $1.47 trillion this year will be top issues for voters in the mid-term elections. Consumer confidence fell in July to a five-month low on concern about jobs and wages, the Conference Board reported yesterday

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-07-28/obam...

This has been a plan of the GOP for the same long 19 months and Obama is just now seeing the light ?

Give us a break Obama -- you had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the table!

I'm not Libby, you moron, I've been posting here for quite some time.

Obviously your obsession with "Libby" has clouded your less-than-stellar judgement.

Same ole' Lil John...how's that teeny little weenie workin' out for ya?
