In a town like Stowe, I suppose that it comes as no shock that we have more than our share of millionaires. That is not even "rich" by today's standards--billionaire is more like it.
But we have a new one in town. He just rented an apartment in Stowe down near the Post Office, and due to an inheritance that even he didn't expect, now has joined that limited club. "I don't know what I'll do with my new fortune. But the very first thing I did was add $10,000 to a college fund for my little friend, Alex." He prefers to remain anonymous, of course, other than to say he is "Alex's grampy". "That little boy is an angel, and got saddled with a bad family. He'll find out all about that and I'll make sure he has a good life," says grampy. "And maybe I'll get a motorcycle after I get back from Korea," he adds. "Mianhamnida." For now, he plans to continue his job with the State working with children. "Kids are the future, but many are mistreated and raised by people who have no business having kids at all. I've worked with kids my whole life and can't imagine doing anything else." As you might imagine, his schedule is pretty full with babysitting requests! And he still consults with families with problems and teaches child development for DCF employees. All this while renovating his main home in East Montpelier. A busy millionaire, to say the least. |
