Next time the parks want a tax increase for money that they need for something then we, as voters, will tell them to take off.

How many acres could this Airplane club be using, anyone know? Tallmadge just received 290 acres can't they reroute this jogging trail to accomodate for the model plane club? It sounds like the district and parks are being a little selfish.

Seems much ado about nothing. The club has been there for 38 years and the park had to have known this when they recently accepted that land as a donation. Flying clubs and parks coexist all across the state, so why can't they here? Sounds like the MetroParks board is losing sight of the forest through the trees on this one.

These type of planes are not allowed in the parks for safety reasons. Let them find another spot to play.

don't worry, some people enjoy jogging so they're gonna kick them out too.

I guess my Family is incompatable with the Munroe Falls Park then. I find it hard to support an organization that has such little regard for a club that has been in the same place for 38 years. Carol Curtis should be ashamed of herself. The Park is lucky enough to have 290 acres DONATED to them and they immediately act like a couple of two year olds who don't want to share. I urge everyone to drive over and look at where the club operates and you will see absolutely how rediculous the park board is being. They fly over an area about the size of three acres. The park can't build a bike and hike trail on the remaining 287 acres? Pathetic. Saying they are being selfish is a gross understatement. Somebddy better pass a resolution that allows the club to opperate there for as long as they like. Incompatable? I think the park board is incompatable with reality. Get a clue people! If this is how the board wants to treat a mainstay in the comunity for the last 38 years, then I say we treat the park board the same way and not offer them any more tax support when they ask for it. I hope they don't teach their children to treat others the way they are treating the Model Airplane club, they certainly are not doing a very good job of leading by example. My days and my neighbors days of supporting the SUMMIT COUNTY metro parks is over! One other thing, Their park rules and regulations CLEARLY state, on their website, that r/c toys may not be operated WITHIN the park UNLESS written permission is given. WHich means they have the ability WITHIN their own rules to allow the club to stay. It does not mention anything about the airspace over the park and the club is NOT located on park property. The park board saying that their rules do not allow them is a complete lie since the rules clearly state that they are able to give written poermission. It is clearly the park being selfish and ungrateful that they were DONATED the land to begin with. The county needs to step up and do something on behalf of the club! The rules are on their website, read them for yourself.

No gambling. No smoking. No recreational planes or boats. No drinking. No music. No fun whatsoever!

Let's petition to have our state motto read, "Ohio, The Doom and Gloom State."

Here are their rules. According to this, they can give permission. What are they waiting for? GIVE PERMISSION already.

10.6 Toy Vehicles: No person shall operate or use any toy
missiles, rockets, airplanes, gliders, or cars within the Park
that are propelled or drawn by power other than
muscular power, unless otherwise authorized by a written
permit issued by the Director/Secretary. ...

This park has lost sight of the 'public'. WE are the public, not 2-5 board members and an anal director who can't smile.

The park lost a wondeful chance to find a happy medium for all parties but instead blew it.

The land was DONATED to the park--in other words is was a gift from the people.

Sounds like the people have no voice with their own land.
I voted NO last time they wanted more money. I will continue voting 'NO' because of decisions like this.

A safety issue? It's undeveloped land. And probably won't be anything different for some time to come. That group has been flying there for almost 40 years. I must be really dense, because I just don't see why this poses a problem all of a sudden.

If, in the end, the model airplane group has to move, the park board should at least help them find a new site. It's the least they can do for booting them out.

I will remember this the next time the park has a levy on the ballot.

In case anyone is unformiliar with the area, the 290 acres that was donated is entirely comprised of woods and overgrown farm fields. There is not a person in sight in the area. the only place you will have people is on the bike and hike trail they want to build. Other than that, there is no safety issue. I understand that the model club even offered to pay to have the bike route moved to not come very close to the air field and the board rejected the offer. So they have 290 acres of free land given to them and they insist on building a bike and hike trail that goes right next to the tiny airfield so that they can say it is a safety issue? The club offers to pay to have it routed differently AT NO COST TO THE PARK BOARD but they reject it? Come on, what is going on here? You've got 290 acres to work with! How hard can it be?

Oh I forgot--with the Corsair being built by Akron and the club named after this plane why couldn't the park find some way to keep this club around and use it for educational purposes???

There is so much HISTORY buried in these parks that will NEVER be discovered because the park refuses to allow any access to it!!!

Once again KEITH SHY----YOU BLEW IT!!!

Why doesn't the county just take back about 5 acres of the land closest to the club and DONATE to them. I am done supporting a park system that does not cater to its customer base. No more money for the parks! Why don't they put this issue on the ballot and let the public vote on it.

I'm sure the park board will have an emergency session and change their rules to read "You can not operate any toys in the park or in our airspace" Better save a copy of those rules now before they are secretly changed. Stay put air club. Let them take you to court.

If it were up to Keith Shy, I bet he'd ban people from the park claiming they are a saftey issue to the animals. Who pays this guy's salary any ways? These park board members can't be this dumb can they? How do we replace them with some knowledgable, compassionate members who have the community in mind. Those hikers over there stand a better chance of being mulled by a killer rabbit than being hurt from the air club. 38 years in exhistance RIGHT NEXT to the fair grounds. What is their safety record? Get a life park board!

Two thumbs to the board. Yes, they could have said ok fine, you stay and I think most people would be fine with that, but instead I'm sure they have a master plan of NOT disturbing anymore land then they have too and creating some athletic fields there. It's about nature, conservation, peace and quite.

When I supported the idea of donating the Park 290 acres, it wasn't so they could kick out the Model Airplane Club. What an Abomination this park board is. I too will vote no for any additional funding they ask for. They don't deserve it if this is how they want to act.

That club has been there for 38 years. Who's disturbing who? Good luck finding any articles of people complaining about the club. Model airplanes are not my thing but even I can see how rediculous the Park Board is. Sounds like you are just like them. If they have a plan of not disturbing any more land, then they shouldn't tear it up trying to build a bike and hike trail through it. Leave it as it is.
