Rizzi Said,'I really love it here and I want to stay, she said, adding that the Stoughton School Committee is a fantastic group to work with.
Fantastic Group of Fools, Ignoring the open meeting laws, ignoring the attorney general, and handing out a pay raise when budgets are being cut all over !
Local governments are the root to the escalating cost of living. Property taxes average $400 a month ,just to live in this 1 horse town ! Unionized government is break the back of the middle class !
10 dpw workers and 3 trucks, for several days clearing meads meadow for what, like 12 people that might skate there in the winter ! One of them burnt bad, and Im sure he will be suing the town for millions !

Teachers are getting a 1% raise and she takes 20%? No wonder they had no confidence in her. Take the money and run.

Of course they are outraged. It's an insult to every teacher, firefighter, police officer, DPW worker and secretary who works for this town! The SC members who voted for it should be recalled.

Let's look at it this way. Here is a professional who has dedicated her career to education, and is well educated in her field. She has worked her way up to the highest level of her chosen career.

She did not leave her career to enhance her retirement benefits by accepting a job that she had no experience in performing. She has gone several years without a raise, and this salary is on par with other professionals holding the same job title. It is not the highest salary in the state for someone in her position. It is not a salary that is out of skew for someone with her level of education and experience.

Let's stop selling ourselves short, as well, by stating we are not Duxbury or Weston or etc.... how do you think those towns move forward ? I would suggest that we move forward by investing in our school system and our students. No one is looking to move here because we have 12 rubbish trucks or plow our secondary streets very well. While these things are important, they are not as important as our educational system.

I think that the outrage has been prompted by this Town paying managers exorbitant salaries with out the relevant experience or education. That outrage is legitimate. It is unfortunate that when we actually pay someone worth the money, they take the brunt of our outrage.

Interesting logic on the part of the school committee. We are told that the budget is inadequate. Teachers and other district staff are given 1% raises because the budget is inadequate. Yet, we can find $28,000 to raise the salary of the superintendent--a 20% raise! The raise is close to the starting teacher salary.

It is not at all clear how a raise of this magnitude makes any sense in any context. It certainly sends the wrong message to our school administrators and their teaching staff, who are the people that really provide our high quality schools. A basic tenet of management is to lead by example--accepting a very large raise while telling your employees that the district can only afford them a 1% raise does not set much of an example. It is basically a slap in the face.

It is also a slap in the face to Stoughton taxpayers, none of whom are likely to receive a 20% raise anytime soon. It looks quite a bit like the greed and self-interest that pervades Wall Street/Corporate America. A 20% raise for any public employee is completely inappropriate in the current economic climate.

Perhaps it is time for 'Occupy Pearl Street' to setup camp? Perhaps a recall of the committee? It is certainly past time for taxpayers to take action.

I am deeply disappointed by the school committee's apparent lack of connection with the financial realities of the Stoughton taxpayers that the committee is supposed to represent.

School Daze - Just an FYI: there are a number of highly qualified school employees who went without raises just as long as Dr. Rizzi--I haven't seen these folks receiving 20% raises? Some of these people have worked for the district for years.

A 20% raise in the current economy is completely irresponsible on the part of the school committee. It isn't a question of whether or not the salary should be higher. It is a question of what makes sense in terms of the overall fiscal picture in Stoughton. A $28,000, 20% raise at a time when most folks are not receiving raises, and are just thankful to be employed, is an insult to every taxpayer in Stoughton.

If Rizzi had gotten the same pay increases the last three years as teachers got (raises, steps and lanes) she'd be making more than $170,000

Daily Horoscope for May 19

Leo

This is a good day for concentrating on activities that boost your self-esteem and sense of satisfaction. Do the very best job you can manage, partly for your own sense of pride and partly because it's important for you that bosses and superiors know what you're capable of. There should be good news about a pay rise, perk or a new job that's in the pipeline.
