Do something great and selfless with your life, and maybe when you die unexpectedly, you WILL get an article in the paper. Until then, grow up. And for the racial concerns, get a life. At the end of the day, the skin color doesn't matter. Whether the killer was white, black, green or blue he's in jail and will eventually suffer in hell. I've known Chuck since we were 12 years old. The world hasn't just lost a firefighter, or a motorcycle rider, a neighbor or an employee. We - and I do mean WE- have lost a friend. We've lost laughter, smiles, chivalry, an honest heart, and a beautiful soul. It's tragic. It's sad. It's life changing. And if you didn't know Chuck, it's your loss. He's not a headline because he put out flames. He's made history because he's everything a man should aim to be throughout life, and Chuck did it all in only 25 years. Thank you chuck was my son, best friend and biggest supporter he always made me proud to say this is my son. or as he use to say "The favorite son" even though i loved them all the same. chuck had to make you smile to know chuck was to love chuck

Average Joe wrote: Why does it matter that he is a firefighter? Would Newsday report it if he were just a plumber? It's one thing if he died in the line of duty, but this was a guy killed on a motorcycle. Hey AVERAGE JOE you have some pair of b***s to make a comment like that. It is what we do as firefighters / EMT's that makes the difference regardless if he passed in the line of duty. As a volunteer we are always on DUTY. You are an IGNORANT FOOL for making such a remark like that. Get a grip and a LIFE. You still have a chance Chuck does not.

I agree with Average Joe.
While this loss is indeed tragic, what makes his life any more valuable than anothers?
I think thats all he was trying to say.

No one will forget that he was a firefighter, that's certain, but that is not what he will be most remembered for. He was a hero, but he didn't go around broadcasting it. He never wanted any recognition for the amazing things he did, he didn't make people's lives better because he wanted to be patted on the back for it. So if he is finally being appreciated for the selfless life that he led, then I can't imagine a more worthy news story.
People complain that the news only tells negative stories and then we finally get a story honoring a hero and his beautiful life, and people complain about that and turn it into a negative thing, its just unbelievable.
Chuck will be remembered for putting everyone around him at ease, for being able to make any one laugh (usually so much that it hurt), for the way that his eyes actually sparkled when someone was able to turn his jokes right back around on him. I loved this guy for so many reasons in the very short time that I knew him.
As for the question "While this loss is indeed tragic, what makes his life any more valuable than anothers?" A whole lot of things make his life more valuable than others, mostly, if someone else tragically died, he certainly wouldn't be posting all kinds of negative things about them anonymously on some forum... he was too busy out living.
As for Chuck's family I am thinking of you every minute. I pray that you are able to find comfort in all the love that people had for your son. As for the outrageously stupid comments, its just amazing to think that, without a second thought, Chuck would have saved any one of their lives if they were in need. I will never forget Chuck.
