Sayville is Turning into Brentwood.
Now all you need are some gangs and a few day laborers. Look, Sayville is as backwards and shady as Oakdale and Bohemia are already. The "this can never happen in my town/city" attitude is the wrong approach. It can happen, it will, and guess what? It already did! Welcome to "normal".
Open your eyes...it's the whole country. Morality is down the drain.

He stabbed someone 19 times!!! If he truly has a mental condition (as it sounds like he does) he'll now get the help he needs.

Wow! I'm stunned. I'm staggering from incredulity. I grew up in Sayville over sixty years ago and I have nothing but pleasurable memories. I'm responding to the comments that appear in this thread (if that's what you call it). I was raised in St. Ann's Episcopal Church. Many wonderful memories of that experience. I can't remember any crime occurring in Sayville all the years of my life that I lived there. It seems unholy that there should be crime of such magnitude in my home town. I remember so many wonderful people in the Sayville of my childhood. I lived north of Montauk Highway. Greeley Avenue. The commentary on this thread makes it seem like my boyhood town has turned into hell on earth. I can barely believe this is possible. What happened to my country?

And that's just for openers. I had a wonderful life in school in Sayville, New York. Ultimately, my favorite teacher in high school was Christopher Kartalis. They say that schoolteachers in the life of an individual can and do often enough leave an indelible mark on the life of a child that has been a member of one of their classes. Mr. Kartalis was such a person in my life. Had it not been for Mr. Kartalis I think my life might have been an entirely different affair. The man just made my heart sing. The encouragement he gave me as a teenager cannot be overemphasized. How many former students can say such a thing? Sayville High School. What a world. What a life. What a memory. All of it good. Our principal was a man named Tillman E. Wenk. What a sweetheart he was. I can still recall him inspiring me to walk on through life and climb the highest mountain. What a guy! What a school! What a town! Not far from where the Gallaghers lived. Maybe some of that greatness that emanated from Sayville High School drifted across the street and inspired the neighboring families. I hope so.
