Plane Crash - 1928

On several web sites there is a reference of an airplane that crashed and burned outside of Polk in an area known as Bear Hollow in 1928. It was reported that the plane was carrying the US MAIL and a cargo of diamonds.
Anyone know where Bear Hollow is? Anyone with more information about the crash? Anyone ever go to the crash site area? Anyone know if any of the mail survived from the crash?
