>This establishment is the furthest thing from being an upstanding contributor to the commerce of this suburb, nor would it be to any other. One never sees a sleazy business such as this, so conspicuously located with residents' backyards literally adjacent to its parking lot, in any other Chicago suburb or in the city. I believe that part of the reason is old-fashioned corruption, and the other part has to do with the racial makeup of the people whose backyards sit practically in the adult bookstore's parking lot. They are nearly all Latinos, and the vast majority are Mexicans and Mexican-Americans. The problem is that men are doing obscene things inside this store, which is operating in the heart of a residential area that is filled with children, and is also right beside a grocer / restaurant that is frequented by whole families of Mexican-American people on a daily basis.
>The backrooms and "viewing booths" at this adult store are filthy, literally. There are gaping holes in the walls between the booths. The store is managed and staffed by men who come off as being little more than ignorant thugs, and it appears to employ only one Mexican man who may actually be a local resident. He is the one who mops up the private viewing booths. It is not unusual to see anything ranging from empty porn film boxes or DVD cases , to used condoms, left lying in the parking lot. Men who visit the store frequently park their cars or sit inside their cars on the other side of the store, in the north parking lot. On that side of the building there are quite often children whose families live right beside the establishment playing in the parking lot or riding their bicycles without adult supervision. The store is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year.
>This business was opened because of corruption. Robert Natale, the mayor of Stone Park at the time the business opened, took a $5,000 bribe from deceased mobster Anthony Centracchio (who at the time controlled the near western suburbs and DuPage County for the Chicago mob), in order to allow this "bookstore" to open. Centracchio's other upstanding contributions to local suburban commerce included illegal video poker machines, and an abortion clinic in another near western suburb. The mob's payoff man in Stone Park at the time was a former Stone Park police Lieutenant , one Thomas Tucker. He essentially acted as go-between for the mob and the mayor. The listed owner of the business is one Joseph Annecca. Annecca's brother Michael "Moon" Annecca, and one Mike O'Malley, have acted as managers of the Galaxy adult bookstore. In February of 2001, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Joe Annecca was caught in a "secretly recorded conversation" listening to Anthony Centracchio explain to him how Mayor Natale had recently been caught playing on one of the town's illegal video poker machines when police raided a Stone Park bar.
>It is only because the local people are Mexicans and Mexican-Americans that this has gone on for so long. If they were all Italians or Italian-Americans, or any other ethnicity for that matter, would this store still be there? Would it have been allowed to open in the first place, with its parking lot adjacent to many of their backyards? The Anneccas do not live in Stone Park. Nor do the O'Malleys, or likely any other manager or employee of the store, with the probable exception of the janitor. Would Annecca, or Natale, or the current Stone Park Mayor Beniamino Mazullo, want their families or friends or neighbors exposed to such a store and to its clientele on a daily basis? One must assume it is highly doubtful that the answer to any of those questions would be a resounding yes.

I agree Oscar, essentially. People like that give all Italian-Americans an even worse name than we already sometimes have , with the mob and all that I mean. It's terrible. But the thing is, how do you get a place like that closed down or restricted in any way??? You need clean government in the town, and that seems like a long shot, to me. I don't even trust some of the local police.

One never sees a sleazy business such as this, so conspicuously located with residents' backyards literally adjacent to its parking lot, in any other Chicago suburb or in the city. Nowhere else would this kind of business be allowed to stand, to have stood (and doubtless made a great deal of money) for the past twelve or thirteen years or more. The problem is that men are doing obscene things inside of a store, which is operating in the heart of a residential area that is filled with children, and is also right beside a grocer / restaurant that is frequented by whole families of Mexican-American people on a daily basis.

You have to have people in the local government here that reflect the population. That is not what we have now. No offens to Italians and all, I like them and what not, but, they're more of us here now, in Stone Park, Mexicans. We need to get a non-corrupted non-Mafia influenced Mexican mayor, and we need serious changes in the police force as well. Only then if you ever have a Mexican mayor here, who is an honest man, then you will see closure or restriction on this place. I agree the place is sleaze. I have to live right near it. But what can we the citizens do? We have to reflect it by voting the current people out next time.

Stone Park is a waste of terra firma. One of several corrupt towns (along with Melrose Park, Broadview, Bellwood and Northlake). Stone Park's main source of revenue is the speed trap along Mannheim Road.

At that rate, having a porn video store fits in well with the town's sad existance.

I think the way to stop the politicians is for the fed to throw the book at them about a month or two before their next election. It worked for Troutman in Chicago.

If it fails drop the charges after the election.

It's a horrible place to have to live by, I could see that. I admit I did go there before, and it's nasty. I can't believe they can open it in a town with all these houses and a restaurant next door!! Has to be Sopranos city over there.... yeah OP's right too, all Italian thugs working inside too , at leas when I went in there... a shame... they come there, they don't live there, but they sh!t on the town, w/their business, & then they go home to nice neighborhoods & houses at the end of the day right?

Mazzullo is corrupt as can be, Stone Park cops are the worst in the Chicagoland area, totally corrupt and crooked.

The bookstore is only the most glaring problem, there are many others as well that run below the surface here as well.

Why don't somebody show these posts to someone in village hall over there?? The people are sick of it. We are going to bring the issue to local Mexican-American peoples' councils, and get the Italian thugs who own the store to move it out of town. They don't live here. They just come here and sh*t on our town, as the poster above said, and then they go home to OakBrook. In the future they can expect protests in front of that store. They won't be able to have that place here forever.

Joe Annecca , the two-bit wanna be Soprano smut-peddler who owns the place, lives in OakBrook -- that is correct brother. He does NOT live in town. Nor do any other managers or employees, except the janitor as the OP stated, who is a local man. We are onto these people and their corruption.

In a town of filthy stinking rats you get an alley cat as mayor. If you don't like corruption, go back to your stinking shit hole of a country.

I was born here, I don't understand where there would be to "go back" to... We've lived in or near Stone Park all my life. All I'm saying is the ppl who own this store, it's not going to last forever for them. One day they're either going to get restrictions at least put on it, or they're going to get it closed or have to move it out of the middle of this neighborhood.

The same ppl in Chicago who organized the May 1st march downtown are going to work on a picket in front of this place, over the summer, and media coverage about the place and its location, its criminal owner(s), etc. And that's our right, because it's OUR town...WE, Mexican-Americans, are the majority here now. The days of it being an Italian town are long gone; they all moved out. So why should their mob get to do this to our town, corrupt it so much , and keep one of their own in the mayor's position, and get away with it forever?? They will not. It's not a matter of anybody going "back" anywhere; we're all Americans now, us and them. We have to live here together.

Galaxy Adult Book and Video in Stone Park should never have been allowed to open, it's true. Mayor Natale didn't know the store was going to turn out to be...exactly what it's turned out to be. With the porn viewing booths, and backrooms and all that I mean. It was sold to the mayor as just a place where mens magazines could be displayed and sold. If he had known they were going to be so lucrative, and it was going to expand and be the kind of business it is, I'm sure he would have done the right thing, and demanded well more than a lousy 5 thousand for the store to open there. ;-)

I don't know what all the fuss is about. I lived in Stone Park for 2 years before moving back to Lincoln Park and I have many family members that used to call Stone Park home before it changed. Even when it was Italian the town was never a Naperville and it probably will never be one. I've driven by the store many times while living in town and never saw anything terrible happening. Let's face it, Stone Park needs all the money it can get, and if an adult book store is a source of revanue than so be it. The NIMBY (not in my bakcyard) attitude has to stop. Perhaps if more of the local residents had "voting rights" than they could possibly change this scenario. However, something tells me that most of the residents aren't of the desirable sort so protest all you want. Nothing's going to change unless the demographics of Stone Park change first.

Come on, it never was a Naperville, obviously..... but it's not a "NIMBY" (Not In My Backyard) mentality for these people to be saying that they don't want a smut shop literally IN some of their backyards (go back to your old hometown sometime and drive into the parking lot; it's literally adjacent to many peoples' backyards)! Sure you're not going to SEE anything going on outside the store, but again pull into the parking lot and look at what filth is left lying around, look at the kinds of men either hanging around in the lot or in their cars, or even more so go INTO the store , and into the "backroom / viewing booths" area.... would you really want this disgusting stuff in your backyard, out in Lincoln Park, or would you want your kids exposed to these men as the kids play in the alley behind the place, or the parking lot on the north side of the store.
Ethnic issues / voting rights, etc, all aside, it's irrelevant; it's just a common sense issue. I'm not anti-porn, I'm not anti-gay (or "bi" or whatever some of the men who go there are). The criminal owners of Galaxy bookstore in Stone Park should have to move the show to a different location, where they are not surrounded by homes , a restaurant, a laundromat, and most importantly large families and lots of kids.

I am going to take your advice and drive by this weekend. I'm interested to see what "filth" is in the parking lot or whatever. I don't care what goes on inside the store as long as it stays in the store. BTW, we have an adult shop a block away from the house in Lincoln Park which is way closer to peoples backyards (like a foot away) than Galaxy is over in Stone Park. However, I never see people loitering and nobody seems to really mind. Maybe if I did see a lot of skeezy looking people of ANY race loitering I might have a different outlook. My comment regarding demographics is true. If you can't vote and your don't have citizenship, it's much harder to make a change. Also, have you ever considered that most of the customers at Galaxy likely come from Stone Park or Melrose Park? I'm sure people aren't coming from miles around just to look at porno videos in a dirty booth as you say. Perhaps the situation is a bit exaggerated?

They come from ALL around any relativly nearby areas to go over there, to Galaxy in Stone park, trust me. It's on the Net in gay forums and msg boards. I'm from Park Ridge and I'm homosexual, and it's well known amongst my circle of friends that Stone Park is the place to go for action without having to go downtown and pay to get in, like at the Bijou or Steamworks for example, because you have Galaxy right there, where you can go in the back for free, hang out as long as you want, and do pretty much whatever with whoever; even though I'm always safe, not everybody there is that's for sure.

I don't see many guys hanging around the lots outside on either side of the store, but, yeah there are a lot of kids around on the one side of the store at least, i guess. But i don't think thats really relevant. The main attraction, what i'm trying to say is, it's not the porn mags or movies, for most customers, a hell of a lot of whom are married or live "straight", its the backroom action. Believe me. I like the place, personally and don't want it closed or anything, but, other bookstores i've ever been to are not in the middle of a suburban neighborhood like that , it's true. Like Roselle has one? But it's where they usually are: an unzoned or "unincorporated" area, not around houses, and all that, for example. In that way, Galaxy's placement is kind of peculiar i guess.

lol, yeah Stone Park's Galaxy Books is 'peculiar' because the Chicago area MOB put it there and owns it ! Just like that "Mannheim Bookstore" a little further north down Mannheim and even that place Scores!! I don't care I don't live there and I'm not personally against it, I'm just saying, try being any average guy who's not 'connected' in any regular non 'mobbed-up' town , and getting a license to open a place like that, and in the middle of the town right along its main drag no less!! lol... good luck!!

I saw a guy this weekend at Galaxy Books in Stone Park, workin himself over in his own car right in the parking lot. Don't they have laws against that ?? The store manager doesn't come out there and say anything , or what?? Plus you get these beggars lately. Not just asking for money either, but almost demanding it from you. I called the Stone Park's finest a couple weeks ago and who knows maybe they picked the bum up. Place is a dump though, but it serves a useful purpose for many men, and some women, and it makes a lot of money for the town. I wouldn't want to live in that town , that's for sure, but just to pass thru to go to Galaxy it's alright.

What are you all talking about? Except for the sign you would never know what's happening there (unless you're frequenting the backroom yourself?!). I love it there - always some nice young Latino guys to pound!
