Do you even know what I would do to someone if they dared slap my child?
This man would not have walked out of that store.

How many of you would have straight whooped this mans butt right then and there?

But I must say, I've been in the store sometimes and seen how some mothers deal with their children.(although it is entirely their decision and right to deal with their children however they see fit)
Letting your child scream non-stop while you shop is quite annoying. But touching someone else's child is unacceptable.

Why didn't she grab his hand...and keep him from slapping the child? As soon as he reached toward the child she should have stopped him. He gave her fair warning that he intended to DO something...she should have stepped between them. Not a very protective mother. The instant he drew his hand back....she knew what was coming. My wife would have broken his hand before HE knew what was coming. He was wrong....but mom failed to protect her child.

I used to work retail. I'm not saying this is justified, but there were times kids needed to get spanked and didnt.
I also saw a grown man close-fist punch an eight yr old in the face one time.

i agree, this man was totally in the wrong and should go to jail, but just like you said, as soon as he raised his hand he would've brought it right back down, that dude wouldnt have had the chance to smack my child

There have been many times that I have felt like slapping the PARENT, but not the child.
Can you say fall down and stop breathing? I think you can.

I do believe it is wrong to hit another person's child. This is why I am not the mom who likes to have all of the neighborhood children over. I am not the friend who will volunteer to baby sit other peoples children. If I an't discipline them the way I see fit, then they can't hang out at the house.

The problem is...perhaps if themom had disciplined her own kid, no one else would have fel the need to do it. Not that he was right (I would've laid him OUT!) but parents don't really seem to be RAISING their kids these days.

Oh hell no. Yes, it bothers me sometimes when kids are screaming in store. In my opinion the parents should take the kid outside until he or she is calm. And no this mother didn't do anything wrong! If it happened too quickly, well, it happened too quickly. I seriously doubt that she really thought for a second this man was going to touch her child. She did not fail to protect her child, a man assaulted her child. I get angry at people who look at my kids funny. It's no one else's business, even if the kid IS crying. Just walk to another aisle or to another part of the store.

Sharp, loud noise can produce a "rage reaction" in some men. There are too many squaking brats in public, most of them girls, practicing to become nagging broads.
Mothers should find a way to keep these spoiled little brats from being such nuisances.
She's lucky the guy didn't break her neck in a rage!

Dude, you've apparently got some issues. You know, the whole loud noise thing makes sense. It does. But in this country everyone is expected to exercise self control. If you can't control simple impulses, you can go cool off in one of our many fine prisons.
Yes, they have anal sex in our prisons. Thanks for asking.

That's about the most reasonable way to handle this kind of situation too. Just take your child somewhere to calm down. It's very common to have screaming kids in stores, and Josh is right, sometimes you are just praying for them to take their kid to the bathroom and discipline them in some way. But you never think someone is going to hit your child! Esp. a stranger.

You know the bad thing is, when I told mgt. I was told to "mind my business." I am sure she was getting it much worse at home. Probably being sexually and mentally abused to boot. Who punches an 8 yr old? Seriously?
