I'm now wondering, where's all of the "Silver Rights" leaders on this one? Were shooter "rights" violated? Surely a "march" will be forthcoming. Were it the other way around, the "march" would be underway! I'm just a cynic I guess.

No Bill your just a racist. Dekalb county cops has become one of the most aggressive counties in Georgia. A police county in progress. No one can pass through the dern county without being stopped for any minute concern. I guess they are trying to pay for all those new cars and big salaries. Dekalb county has become known for it's Cop on Cop crimes and Cop on citizen murders. And one big speed trap.

I travel through there all of the time, hummmm, wonder why I've never had any problems? Could it be because I RESPECT THE LAW? Oh yeah BTW, I happen to be non-white! Using the term "racist" is merely a coverup term to absolve the guilty parties of any wrongdoing.

We were held at gunpoint by two black males at our home. We called the police and two black officers arrested me on my property because I smelled of Alcohol. They never looked for the two armed robbers!!!! They charged me with public drunkenness!!!
By the way I wasn't drunk and if I were where else should you be able to have a drink than in your own home.....I'm on a personal crusade to get these type cops off the county payroll, white or black. We have no room for this in any of our lives!
This could happen to anyone and I personally cannot stand by and watch it continue. I know I'm only one person but perhaps I can make a small difference.

South DeKalb Mall has more shootings than some small cities. DeKalb, what a great place to live. Give me a break. And of course, some idiot has to blame this on the cops.

Crime is EVERYWHERE!Dekalb,Clayton,Gwin nett.Florida,S.C.,Ala.We as citizens have the tools to help stop crime. We know people selling drugs, stealing, even the menial of crimes, but we don't want to get involved. We say,"it's not our business."IT IS OUR BUSINESS.We ALL suffer sooner or later. We are so busy with our everyday lives that we have no time to help others.I saw a young lady with a bruise on her arm,one on her face.I just knew she had been abruised.I went up to her and said,"just call me,"and gave her my number.I was troubled as she never called. I later saw the woman in rehab.Crime is crime. The police cannot do it all.The least we can do is report it and offer help.

The police need our help as citizens, they cannot be everywhere at all times. If you see a crime, report it.If you know someone selling drugs, report it. It could be your relative;it's certainly someones daughter, mother, son, or father.I had my car stolen right out of my driveway;surely someone knew this person(s)did not own this car.I've had my apt. broken into, items stolen;surely someone knew this person could not have obtained these items,he probably had no job or means of getting such things.Keep on being silent, someday it will happen it you or a loved one.

An off-duty DeKalb County Police officer was shot and wounded by a robbery suspect Wednesday, not long after his department's new chief addressed at a rash of shootings by police in the suburban Atlanta county.

Sgt. Danny Craft, a veteran of more than 20 years, was shot about 4 p.m. after confronting two suspects fleeing a snatch-and-grab jewelry robbery as he arrived for an off-duty security job at South DeKalb Mall.

A suspect, identified by Chief Terrell Bolton as 32-year-old Anthony Lewis of Decatur, began firing at Craft and wounded him in the leg, the chief said.

Lewis and Cicely Ophelia Scott, 22, of Stone Mountain were arrested after a car chase by other officers. Charges were pending Wednesday night.

"This event today underscores the violence and the senseless, sinful acts we see out here on the street," Bolton told reporters outside DeKalb Medical Center, where Craft was in stable condition.

About an hour before the shooting, Bolton announced that federal and state authorities will now be called to the scene to monitor shootings by DeKalb officers. Last year, the county police were involved in 12 deadly shootings.

Bolton, who started last week, said his department has nothing to hide but was launching the initiative to make citizens more comfortable.

Bolton says the investigation into the shootings is his top priority, and he wants to make sure that the department is doing everything to honor life and to protect officers.

At the hospital, Bolton said police had been called to Lewis' apartment on Tuesday because he had "illegally" taken his children there.

He said authorities chose to quietly remove the children while Lewis slept rather than confront him.
As usual, this raises more questions than it answers.

1. He illegally took his children but was not charged with kidnapping? Weird.

2. He just happens to be the one who did this shooting? What a coincidence!

3. Officer Bolton identified the suspect and not Officer Kraft? Was Officer Bolton even there?

4. And finally: who shot first? If Kraft fired first, and should not have, then Lewis would be allowed to defend himself with any force necessary under Georgia law.

What a mess.
