You need to calm down before you pop a valve. What you and Mr. Ob are doing is mixing your regular run of the mill violence apples with your violence specifically fueled by race oranges. MOST violent crimes are crimes of opportunity meaning one victim would have been just as good as another. HOWEVER when you have a victim who was specifically signaled out because of race, then you have a different type of criminal act altogether.

When I read these threads, especially the ones from Pesk and PR and PW, what I see is another, less dominant "tribe" or group that is trying to impose their belief system on another; like the ants and chimps. The cerebrum is where ‘conscious thought’ takes place. The cerebrum can analyze information from the hypothalamus (as well as from other regions of the brain) and make decisions about that information (and add context such as higher order knowledge, etc.)

Over time the cerebrum will learn to ignore certain impulses from the hypothalamus if the conscious person continually judges those warning impulses as non-threats.

The person who receives the classification impulse from their hypothalamus of -“that person is of a different race, and a possible threat”- and consistently judges in their cerebrum that another person is not a threat merely because they are a different race, over time will train their cerebrum to automatically ignore that particular classification message coming from their hypothalamus. This person will therefore not retain race-based fears and will not act out based on race, i.e., they will not be a racist.

On the other hand, the person that does not use their cerebrum to continually decide that race alone is not a reason to perceive a threat will not train their cerebrum to ignore those classification impulses from their hypothalamus.

It appears that some people are more naturally able to use their cerebrum to analyze the impulses from the hypothalamus – they are more self aware. Others are not, and they are less self-aware, and they tend to react on a ‘gut level’ to external inputs rather than with reason and rationality. Ethics and morals come from the cerebrum, and our modern society is set up with laws to enforce certain ethics and morals, so your comment about a “less dominant tribe” doesn’t make any sense. Perhaps you can elaborate?

Dave likes your post because he thinks it excuses him for allowing his hypothalamus to drive his reactions. Dave likes to think that bigotry is ok if it adheres to ‘societal norms’, so he likes your pseudo-scientific justification of his uncivilized impulses. After all, these impulses are natural, right? Yes they are, but that is no excuse for not using higher order thinking to train away impulses that are anti-social and destructive in a modern, civilized society.

I don't recall what I was doing on January 6, 2007. Since you didn't mention the time of day, I may have already gone to bed before the event you mentioned happened and missed the whole thing.
My mother always told me that if I wasn't in bed by 10:00 I had to come home. Odds are I did one of them.(It was a Saturday wasn't it?)
As for grusome murders, I'm still hung up on the lampshades the Germans made out of Jews. Actually they were not very attractive, and one has to wonder if the Nazi's couldn't had found a better way to occupy themselves.
Now if they had been in the USA they could had at least made black lampshades. These would have kept the light out of ones eyes while reading the bible.
If they had been in the Amazon Valley somewhere they could have had their fellow beings for dinner. This would be more nourishing than lamp shades.
If in that town Palin is from, they could have been kepted on ice for a rainy day.
And, I'm reminded of that white dude that shot all those people from the University of Texas' tower. Was it Walt Disney, Whitman, or something like that?
